Is The Yorker underused in test cricket?

 I think it's underused because it's something different. If bowlers tried the yorker every ball, batsmen would surely adjust accordingly. The reason the yorker is so effective is because the bowlers have worked over the batsmen with length balls, a few short ones and then the yorker...

Who will be the first Test debutant of the KP era?

Why can't people read in context? It has been stated about 6 times now that everyone knows Blackwell had a test- his name only came up in context of options that may block candidates who are uncapped.

As I said about Nick Knight in a different thread, I like Hussain in a studio discussion/interview scenario than as a commentator. I think he is the best option for the Third Man role.

    It's you.

Who will be the first Test debutant of the KP era?

People have not suggested them, they have merely mentioned them as players on the fringes who may block the path of other uncapped contenders. The only reason Blackwell came up was as an unlikely option as a second spinner in India, which could in turn prevent the likes of Swann or Rashid make a...

Who will be the first Test debutant of the KP era?

Blackwell has a test, so is ineligible in the context of this thread. I only brought him up as someone who could potentially block my tip of Swann, though I would suggest it is highly unlikely.

Who will be the first Test debutant of the KP era?

I'd like it to be Davies, but I think this upcoming tour might be one too soon and as such I still fancy it being a spinner of some sort.

Who will be the first Test debutant of the KP era?

I'd prefer to know who you believe it will realistically be rather than hope for. I think my logic of a second spinner is fairly reasoned, so if not Swann, who?

Who will be the first Test debutant of the KP era?

Who will be #641? I think a safe bet might be Graeme Swann. Chances are we play 2 spinners at some point in India and Swann would appear to be the leading candidate to get in the squad. Batting wise, any players on the fringe are already capped (Key, Shah, Bopara), same for keepers (Prior...

Apologies if you have already posted it, but all I have read is who you don't rate. Let me see your ideal Test XI and better still, if you have the time and inclination, post up your ideal squad for the Tests in India.

Actually for his first couple of tests, he batted at #5, while Smith came in at 6.

    Geraint Jones... a forgotten hero?

    That makes 12.

Ramps in particular was never given an extended run in a key position and played a fair chunk of his test innings at 6 (or lower). In fact one of the better runs he had higher in the order was when he was thrust into an opening role, another unusual role for him. Aside from the fact he was in...

You are missing the point. I think most people agree that based on ability/talent/potential, then the Top 5 playing tomorrow are probably the best available Top 5. The issue is fulfilling that potential. Why are they underachieving? Poor coaching, poor concentration, mental lapses, not tough...

    Favourite commentary lines

The bowler's Holding, the batsman's Willey.

I thought Ian Ward mentioned he was averaging over 400!!!

That's just a backwards way around of looking at it, the justification for strengthening the lower order, is by pointing to the deficiency of the top order.

In which case the issue isn't a question of who bats at 6, but a question mark against the openers? This is the point I'm trying, but failing, to get over.

    Indeed he did. Many apologies.
