*Official* Australia tour of New Zealand Feb-Mar 2024

Every time a 10th wicket partnership happens like this over the past 20 years the comms always seem to say the same things (field needs to be more aggressive, fielders lack energy in the field, etc...)

This session an apt representation of Oz/NZ Tests since 1993/94.

    Suggesting Australia should declare, hilarious.

Wonder if Hazlewood was especially determined to bat well after not being able to hang on with Smith in Brisbane?

Can't recall (on paper at least) a less aggressive Top 4 for Australia. In the last 30 years there's been at least a Warner/Ponting/M Waugh/Slater/Hayden that could dominate proceedings. Nothing in this top 4 suggests that.

*Official* England in India 2023/24 #CryMoreTour

Batting of the highest class under pressure this partnership. Showed much greater intensity than before lunch by always looking for 2-3 runs per over with minimal risk. England have barely bowled a maiden in this partnership, which shows how good the tempo they've had is.

Yeah, needed to make them play through the off-side, especially Bashir.

If the rest of the series continues like the last two days gave, that Root reverse dismissal will be more infamous than Gatting's in the 1987 WC Final.

    Absurdly Awesome Cricket Stats

The 5th Test of the Oz v India series at Perth in 91/92 was the only Test Australia played in from Boxing Day 1985 to the first week of 2004 that didn't have a Waugh in it.

Seems like there's a boundary an over from leg-side delivery with fine leg inside the circle.

Don't think there's been a more devastating ODI new-ball bowler than Starc in that 2012-15 period.

Also, this was an even shorter chase than when Oz played USA at the 2004 Champions Trophy; iirc Ponting said that match was a waste of time.

It's both even the most one-sided ODI between these two sides in Oz this century. At the WACA in 12/13, WI were bowled out for a lower score and Oz chased down the target for only one wicket. Mind you, that WI side had the excuse that Starc was at his unplayable best that match.

Impressive effort by Forde to have his two overs be worse than the WI batting was.

WI lost 6/15 at the end there, and at least 5 of those were wides!

Yeah, I doubt the West Indies have bowled out Australia even moderately cheaply in an ODI in Oz for a long time, possibly as far back as 92/93. The West Indies gave been a poor ODI side for a long, long time away from home. Barely won an away series in the past 15 years outside of Ireland, UAE...

One time West Indies were unlucky to not win in those 26 years was in 04/05 @ the Gabba where Pedro Collins ripped through the top order to have Oz 5/43 chasing 264... but rain came to prevent almost certain victory. Otherwise, the 18 consecutive victories by Oz haven't even been close; never...

Ambrose didn't play any ODIs in Oz post-97. On the other hand, Chris Gayle never played in a winning West Indian ODI side against Australia in Australia. Edit: added ODI; not sure if Gayle played in winning WI T20 side v Oz in Oz.

27 years since WI beat Oz in Oz in an ODI. Might be waiting a few more years based on today's match.
