*Official* South Africa in England Thread

I know you guys have this impression that i'm a pommy basher and nothing but it - but i do give credit where its due, and i recognize your rugby team, along with the all blacks, as easily the best rugby teams in the world. Australia are utterly pathetic and I even picked that we'd get dominated...

well England are all out for 173 - in the end it's at least defendable rather than the what was looking a very ordinary total to begin with. Gotta bowl well though. I think they should currently be thinking of what they did with the ball in the last test, and do exactly the opposite.

Gough and Anderson saving a few Pommy asses at the moment, perhaps somewhat reminiscint of the Allan Kippax/Harry Horder (I think) partnership of 300+ for the tenth wicket after the score was 9/100ish, playing for NSW v Vic many many years ago. This is like the Gough of old who used to be able...

    Your all-time Test XI

Robert Russell was undoubtedly and great keeper and is a good call as a bolter for the team, although i don't think you'd get much support for him. IMO, i wouldn't pick him because i'm not a fan of players of his ilk - I.e. very dour. At times it was painstaking to watch him bat, which didn't...

    Pick your XI

England's future bowling will be allright, but it would help if a spinner comes along - but than again thats a luxury few teams have had. But with Hoggard they have an excellent swing bowler, and James Anderson has great potential. Darren Gough still has a few years left in him, but they need...

    Your all-time Test XI

I think the impression people have got from Gilly's keeping has come purely from what he has done in the recent Ashes tour, where he's keeping was the worst it's ever been. Aside from that series, he's never been poor at all, and is as good as a keeper as anyone else. Perhaps not in the level...

    Your all-time Test XI

gilchrist doesnt' actually drop that many - at least no more, or at least not that dramatically more, than any other. most of his keeping errors have came off spinners, and that has got alot to do with him keeping against Shane Warne - hardly any batsmen can pick him, so it's even harder for...

    Your all-time Test XI

Adam Gilchrist = freak, and the amount of flexibility he offers a team far outweighs the fact he isn't quite the best wicketkeeper, but IMO his actual wicketkeeping is very underrated. His errors are noticed much more than other keeper's are because people are trying to bring him down - it's...

    Your all-time Test XI

i did this page a while back - http://cricketsbestxi.tripod.com/ the team was: Herb Sutcliffe (England) 1894-1978. Right Hand Batsmen, Right Arm Medium. 1924-1935; 54 Tests, 4555 runs at 60.73. Never Bowled. 23 catches. Len Hutton (England) 1916-1990. Right Hand Batsmen, Right Arm Leg...

what a pasting the Poms are copping. Graeme Smith is a gun - he'll be one of the best of his era when he retires I reckon. Can't stand him as a person, but as a cricketer has all the hallmarks of a champ.

    Hardest Shot to Play?

the back foot on drive is the hardest shot to play - it's just so hard to get any power on it. for me, ummmmmmmmmmmmmmm, pretty much everything, not much of a bat. I'm just a swing, and if i hit it goes a long way, if I miss, well it might hit the stumps or I might get another chance.

    Give Ponting A Bowl!

or they over bowl themselves ;) but ponting isn't half bad, but not much more than 4 overs at a time for him i would think.

you are chairman of the ecb?

in Sydney, we have a grade competition, with 5 grades in it, and each club can only have something like 3 or 4 overseas players........ we have Jeff Cook (England) and James Marshall (New Zealand) playing first grade. They were both unpaid (or paid very little) And we had a couple of...

you are chairman of the ecb?

when i say 10 counties, i don't mean dumping 8 counties, but rather mergin some of the counties, and dumping 2-3 of the reall under performing counties. it would never happen, because of the amount of people that would be upset, but it was instantly double the amount of resources going into...

you are chairman of the ecb?

if i was chairmen of the ECB, i'd completely overhaul the FC system. - one division of 10 FC teams; playing 9 4-day county competition games, and 9 1-day competition games, plus finals in each competition. - maximum 22 players per squad county squad, plus 5 developement (under 18) players. -...

Its 2007 and it the start of the ashes in Australia, what would be your best xi

i don't know about him. I don't think he'll ever crack it to be a permanent member of the test team - he bowls to many full tosses. Added to that, our first grade plays pretty regularly against him and they all reckon he's an absolute **** of the first degree.......

    Australia's Dominance Is Because............

i dont know about that........... our depth is generally pretty good, particularly in batting. bowling not so great, but Ashley Noffke would've played test cricket if he were born in any other country in the world IMO.

    Andre Nel

oooo god come on boys, lift your games. if guys can't take verbal abuse, provided it doesn't go to far - and generally it doesn't, than I have no sympathy with them at all. Although I didn't see the incident, Michael Vaughan had no problem with Nel going from this thread, so who cares.
