    Commentary complaints thread

Considering 45% of the teams are associates, you'd think they'd at least add Andrew Leonard.

***Official*** West Indies tour of Australia, Jan–Feb 2024

Do you think Smudge wanted this because he's cooked and this is just a last hurrah before retirement? I just don't see him playing until he's 38-39 like Ponting etc. Recall Clarke having a purple patch then couldn't get one off the square around the same age.

What would a modern player need to beat Bradman?

Blokes been dead for over 20 years. I think a sneeze would be enough.

    T20 World Cup 2024 Teams

Exciting times for African cricket. Caught the highlights of a few matches online, and there looked to be some genuinely good bowlers. Felt far more promising than what's coming out of Europe.

Who is likely to be the next Test Playing Nation ?

I said it in a previous thread, but the full membership thing is archaic and wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing disappears once international cricket is irrelevant and membership is redrawn so that all countries can opt in/out of different formats to cut operating costs. It's worked so...

    Cricket in 2028 Olympics

Think there will be two spots for Asia since the IOC will be hoping for an India v Pakistan match and the US will automatically qualify. Maybe they'll have a FIFA style Asia 2 v Americas 1 for the final spot

    Cricket in 2028 Olympics

Yes, it's an IOC event, not ICC and they've already mentioned they want to see it spread evenly amongst the regions. The t20 world cup qualifiers are (sadly) all regional now too, so it's sorta in line anyway

    The Records and Milestones thread

427 runs and not a single six All I can think is they didn't know the rules and Argentina wasn't going to tell them. Reminds me of a school football match I played in back in Australia. It was only after about 7 foul throw-ins by both sides one after another did someone explain that both...

    Cricket in 2028 Olympics

Would expect they'll be counted as legit T20is. Pretty sure the host would be an automatic qualifier, so that leaves 5 spots left. Read somewhere that the IOC gets the final word on the qualification process, so guessing it'll probably be regional like the other sports. 2 from Asia, 1 from...

    Cricket in 2028 Olympics

Word is LA28 were left with no choice but to include it as the IOC are desperate to tap into the Indian market tv wise, which makes sense. Think the last round of Olympic rights was worth around 15mill in that region.

    wtf just happened to cricinfo

Still waiting for live career statistics to come back to scorecards. Was also great to be able to pick a random scorecard from any point in history and see what everyone's career stats were up till that point.

    *Official* World Cup Qualifiers 2023

I don't think we'll ever see another new full member nation and I think that's a good thing. I reckon the whole thing will eventually be scrapped and a single-tier system will be introduced. Not all members are interested or can afford to fund playing multi-day cricket but want more security...

    *Official* World Cup Qualifiers 2023

Looks like it's down to either a 31 runs or 35 ball victory for the Dutch to qualify. Either way, fantastic to see a team outside the top 12 qualifying. To put how big this is in perspective - this game on Thursday should've been the playoff for the next edition of the Super League. Now no...

    *Official* World Cup Qualifiers 2023

Shades of Toronto 2001 here for those of us old enough to remember. As depressing as it looks, there are some positives though just like that absolute shitshow 22 years ago. The best batters are actually good and still in their 20s, the bowling stocks, albeit not anywhere near world-class are...

    Mark Taylor - ODI Career

Slater sucked at one day cricket because he couldn't rotate the strike. I wonder if players like Gilly or Sanath were playing today would be more suited to coming in with 20 overs to go, rather than going hard at the start against the new ball and sometimes coming off.

    Mark Taylor - ODI Career

The job of the openers in the 80s and 90s was to stick around for the first 25-30 overs before the pinch hitters came in and got the total above 200. Think Greatbatch was probably one of the first to go hard at the start and once it was successful at the 96 World Cup, blokes at the top like like...
