Test Newcomer of the Year ?

Sometimes the less fancy guys go on to be the best. Anderson probably isn't the most talented bowler to debut for England but he was world class while other guys didn't harness their talents. Atkinson doing similar so far.

Can confirm the aversion to opening starts at school. Latham began his FC career at 5 and keeping, Conway was a 3 and Young was a 3. Rachin was an opener lol but he's too airy fairy to be trusted there.

    2024–25 NZ domestic season

Shipley could go from playing ODIs to not even a walk up start in a full strength Canterbury. Not that it will matter much, but you'd think Henry, KJ and O'Rourke would be first choice.

Agreed. If we don't trust 4 main bowlers and Phillips/Mitchell/Ravindra, then we need to start looking at Abbas and Foulkes coming in and/or ensuring our keeper can really bat 6. Foulkes has been trusted to open the batting sometimes, and can obv open the bowling, so he's a guy who really needs...

He's a 35 average batsman who had it above 40 for years because he never misses out against SL and Bangers at home, and tbf is very good in Asia.

Congrats to England. They played the best overall and look to have found some guys who exceeded expectations to complement the usual suspects. The batting gets a lot of press but I think Carse being intense and reliable was a real difference in the series. NZ are weird in that Southee and...

    Australia/New Zealand motorsport thread

Pretty hyped for it, only wish it was in a top class prototype. Equally curious to see how Will Brown goes against juniors. If we knew then what we know now, dropping Whincup, McLaughlin and SVG into 2017 F2 could have been a bloodbath (as it should be because most juniors suck).

I'm his biggest cheerleader but that's classic Will Young. He's far more valuable in low scoring series/on minefields because he always scores 40 - 80.

Oram was one of the rabble rousers on a certain 2012 tour as well. His overly loud pass agg bus sooking from memory.

Yeah there's a difference between faith in your team and allowing it to drift.

Ferrari's to lose next year. Best driver combo and increasingly likely to overtake McLaren for best car.

Mariu is very rocks and diamonds according to my grapevine. 8 or 80 was the quote. Still tho I went all in as previously stated so no departing the train.

I think McCullum and Stokes' selections suck tbh. It's vibes based dribble and will slap them in the face reasonably often. Going full yolo is just 90s to 00s NZ selection. Chapman is both one of the best batsmen available with a range of shots and deserves a call up based on performance. I...

Dominant drive from Lando today. Bloke is probably rueing what could have been. Divestappen likely to be a one man army again next year in a car on par with McLaren and Ferarri so that will be fun. Crossing my fingers for Yuki to get that second seat but won't happen. Why make a halfway...

New Zealand doom and gloom thread

I don't think we need to go full yolo on potential and canning players. KW, Rachin and Conway are generational NZ talents. Good FC players like Mitchell and Blundell have made world class performances. The system is reliable. The issue is when standards slip they aren't being reset. Like the...

Southee has been singled out (correctly) but the entire side is producing garbage. There is an argument they've all slid due to being of a similar age, but everyone hitting the wall at once is unlikely, and I think the majority still have the talent for test cricket but need strong, fair...

Is there anything worse in world sport than t20 world cups every 2 years? It's like if rugby league shelved half the nrl season for the 9s every 2 years (not taking a shot at 7s because it has differentiated itself from 15s almost entirely).

Yeah a big name dropping would put the fire up the rest. Like Flemings team it appears to be a lads club.
