I heard that comment and thought “nah, he can’t have actually said that” and then moved on.

Poor guy. If this is the last we see of him for New Zealand, that is a really disappointing way to bow out.

    Well crap.

Anyway. I said earlier I would bow out of this debate, and I will now. There is a great game of cricket to watch and focus on instead.

I guess you could read my post as demonising Bracewell, but it is the selectors I am trying to aim at. If Bracewell plays, I hope he does well - just like I do with all the members of the current line-up. But it is fundamentally not right that he gets a shot when players like Ravindra, Sodhi...

The latest forecast has rain peaking at 7am, with it clearing completely away from noon.

Thanks @Shady Slim. That is my point. And I don’t want to oversell it. And I don’t think any bias is conscious. It is just that the NZ selectors are so conservative that their default is to pick the familiar. And that is to the detriment of the team and the many talented players who are not in...

Man. If you think I am racist, wait until you see the makeup of this current New Zealand team.

Fair. Dougie isn’t a terrible pick based on recent form, but he is a terrible pick based on the fact that he is yet another [redacted], 30-something with a very average first-class record (and worse test record) and the right connections. As someone said earlier, “his face fits”. And I want to...

Dougie isn’t a terrible pick based on recent form, but he is a terrible pick based on the fact that he is yet another white, 30-something with a very average first-class record (and worse test record) and the right connections. As someone said earlier, “his face fits”. And I want to see some...

Given that Gillespie is being talked about, that seems a good point of comparison to what I have seen of Tickner. Very much a rhythm player who could be terrible or great in any particular spell apparently at complete random.

Does anyone know how cricket rights and broadcasting work? I am wondering if we might see a new commentary team when the rights pass to TVNZ. I am also wondering if it is too early to start writing to TVNZ to complain about how crap Stevenson is at talking about cricket. PS Well done Daryl!

Lol! And I see he has already played 24 tests. I thought he must be a newbie. Shows how much I have followed Sri Lankan cricket recently.

I just turned the stream on after a day of meetings, and Lahuri looks like a decent prospect. He seems to be straining to bowl a bit too quick at the moment, but he bowls a heavy ball and got it to do a bit that over.

The over rate today has been terrible, but I reckon the Sri Lankans have been as much to blame as the New Zealanders. A ridiculous amount of mucking about by the batsmen.
