Siraj has a better deal due to the environment he bowls in, but Srinath was scary pacy. If I am a batsman, I simply don't want to face Srinath instead of Siraj when I have to deal with Bumrah from the other end. Srinath is the only Indian bowler who had the potential to bring in intimidation. Unlucky for them he was in a different era, and the man was a teddy bear. If he was half bad ass as current Indian seamers, would have been a brilliant bowler.

This coming from a Sri Lankan is quite funny

(Siraj has been a menace to them recently)

Siraj did well against us because our batsmen were pathetic. Sri Lankan batsmen Srinath bowled to - especially in ODIs - were pretty good players.
I think you are being a bit harsh on your players. I think they are very talented…but need as much exposure they can get. Play more cricket and stuff.

Siraj performed really really well in this test, but come on man
Is comparing Siraj with Srinath that off? Srinath rarely had the impactful performances that Siraj has already had. Obviously it has a lot to do with the support cast, I acknowledge.

It's interesting exercise at this point to think how far Siraj may have climbed in all time India pace bowlers stakes. To me behind Shami, Zaheer and Ishant but comparable to Srinath.

Srinath had a 49 test run from 1993-2001 where he averaged 27.87 overall, taking 197 wickets, and it includes home tests (where he was actually better, average wise, but lower WPM wise).
That said, this period also includes poor averages in Australia, NZ and England but he was great in that one series in South Africa, and did very well vs Sri Lanka as well.

Siraj hasn't quite had that kind of run yet overall, but his individual performances don't always reflect his averages/performances at times. Even accounting for the home tests where he's basically used as a work horse donkey, he still only averages almost 30 overseas - considering this came in the pace/bowling friendly era with performances in South Africa, Australia etc, it's not great.
He needs to figure out how to bowl better when Bumrah is playing.

Srinath still takes it on career by a comfortable distance at the moment, and it does feel like he would have averaged a shade lower with a few more wickets if he was blooded into a 2016-ownards India attack.

Srinath is next only to Bumrah and Kapil.

Shami also a tier above Siraj. Before this breakthrough series, Siraj was pretty much a useful support cast.
