Hussey and Buttler too, but Bevan was the original.
Hard to compare. ODIs became such a different sport in that time. Even in Dhoni's time it had changed a lot.

Bevan was late 90s, tougher batting conditions and smaller bats where you couldn't blast sixes at will late in the innings. You had stronger bowling, generally full strength attacks better bowlers in general. Buttler would be lucky to average over 30 and Hussey might do what Bevan did but less ~10 runs average

Why are the Australians ranked on stats, legacy and game changing contributions whilst the Indians are ranked on stats, impact and longevity?

Probably a way to make the fielding worse but cbf right now.

Criteria was as ATG as you can get following these guidelines

Bowlers average below 10
Keeper below 20
Batsmen have never taken a wicket in test cricket

Greenidge can obviously replace Hayden if you prefer. Others I also considered - Kohli, Amla, Kanhai, Inzamam. Flower and Sanga are disqualified for obvious reasons. Keeper could also be Taylor, Grout or Tallon. If you like clouds Anderson is an option. Bedi and Chandra too. Didn’t consider Barnes because 8.06 pre war is a bit better
Anti-HB XI

This bloke should be considered in these discussions

Tom Richardson, born on this day in 1870, is widely regarded as one of the fastest bowlers in the history of cricket. His achievements in Test cricket remain notable for their historical significance and statistical impact.
* Richardson reached 50 Test wickets in just seven matches, making him the second-fastest to achieve this milestone after Charlie Turner.
* He recorded five consecutive five-wicket hauls in Test matches, a feat surpassed only by Turner.
* His match figures of 13 wickets for 244 runs against Australia in 1902 rank as the fourth-best bowling performance in a losing cause in Test history.
* Over the course of 14 Test matches for England, Richardson claimed 88 wickets at an average of 25.22.
* In 1963, Wisden recognized his contributions by naming him one of the "Six Giants of the Wisden Century," alongside Sydney Barnes, Don Bradman, W. G. Grace, Jack Hobbs, and Victor Trumper.
Richardson's legacy is preserved not only through his remarkable statistics but also through his enduring reputation as a pioneering fast bowler of his era.

And i freely admit I had never heard of these achievements

So while looking for that video, I found this little gem of Kimber's pre 2000 test world XI. Honestly thinking back about some of his comments on Gilchrist and Ames for that matter, think Ames makes his all time XI as well.

But here it is.

Trying to choose for his pro-English audience whilst still being diverse
It was an India podcast, so don't know where that comes in.

I think Hobbs is without doubt the greatest opener ever, still not picking him for a team to take the field ever.

I'm just disappointed he didn't take Barry.
