Chase is keeping Motie out of team. He is a good spinner too. If King and Hope pick up in tests as well, windies have a great chance to win other top nations.

See I suspect the that question is part of why he hasn't been getting the loud plaudits. Not are matches in WI not particularly well followed, but his performances are with the WI-special Dukes ball on late season pitches (now the IPL has swallowed WI's former home test season) that have been rather grassy and irregular and offer plenty of movement.

Marnus should be right back at 3 first thing after he plays a decent knock in first class cricket. Those who think Australia can afford to lose a 31 year old with a 46 plus average is delusional af. I can almost hear TJB getting ready to tear up the keyboard but please note that I said 'after playing a decent knock'.
McSweeney deserves an another opportunity so that would be Konstas's replacement. Good thing is he won't face anyone who is good enough to carry Bumrah's jockstrap after a hard days play during the Ashes so he should be fine
Usman is cooked though. Warner did get a fairwell series (much shorter and much less important) which drew people mad but Warner atleast looked like he could play. I can't see Usman making many if he is not playing in the subcontinent. I think he will still get the first test but there's no guarantee of him lasting the distance unless his performances improve drastically especially if Aust lose an early test

He bowled one of the best new ball spells on a raging turner in Pakistan with no other pacers in sight. He performed well on flat decks in England with their dukes as well. His one match in Australia was when he was injured, he really shouldn't be judged in that. He has taken wickets against Australia, Pakista , England and South Africa so far.
So I get the premise, but it doesn't stand up to scrutiny. The guy is amazing.

This but unironically. Aus are not a great team right now. Yeah they played in the WTC final but that was based off form from players up to 2 years ago that have fallen off since. Khawaja was one of the best bats in the world but has fallen off a cliff (could say something similar for Marnus) and while the bowlers are still clearly very good they will drop rapidly in coming years.Same for Australia

Yep, he made an impact in the one test he played in Pakistan on a pitch where seam bowling was supposed to be useless. He got the ball to move appreciably off the seam.

For all the discussions about them being terrible, they still don't lose much though. Wtc yes but they did beat NZ and SL away who tend to beat most visiting teams and they did beat India aswell all in the past 18 months.
What I'm saying is that the truly terrible period has not upon us yet. Say in 4 years the bowling attack will be gone along with Smith and Head will be closing in on 36. Current side would look gold from that POV

We're in trouble now and we will lose bowlers too. Such a pity Richardson is made of glass as he'd be in his career prime rn. Cummins will be key for us keeping a decent attack on the park, being the captain and youngest of the big 3. If we can keep him another 3 -4 years ...
Worryingly we don't seem to have many pace men coming up. The best are Lance Morris, Fergus O'Neill, Spencer Johnson, Joel Paris and Nathan McAndrew. The first two being the youngest, the next 2 most injury prone and the last the journeyman who is under rated and a fairly decent bat as well. Hopefully these guys will surpass Neser and Boland and eventually be ready to replace Starc and Haze, though its hard to see them matching their quality.
We have some sly AR options too. Jack Edwards, Will Sutherland and Aaron Hardie (as long as the selectors have finished trying to ruin him) who might give us the opportunity of playing 5 bowlers, which would assist Cummins.
As for the batting I'm already falling too fast and too hard for Jason Sangha because that's how desperate I am for a test class young batsman. Interestingly we have spin options to eventually replace Lyon with Kuhnemann, Murphy, Roccychoccy and maybe Tanveer and Pope, but the last two are realistically a long way off.
Imagining a side that saw the mass replacement of Khwaja, Starc, Haze and Lyon but retained Cummins and Smith could be McSweeney Weatherald Marnus, Smith, Head, Webster, Carey, Cummins, Boland, Morris, Kuhnemann. Ward or someone of the dismal 3 pushing for opener (the best and most consistent of them being Harris which underlines how desperate things are). McSweeney again having another chance to slot in at 3 and J Sangha going for No. 4. Cameron Green, Edwards and Hardie options for the lower middle order. McAndrew a chance for the spot Boland has and Roccychoccy or Harry Potter pressing Kuhnemann as the spinner. I'm thinking Green has to make it as a batsman as there must be doubt over his future as a bowler and his health generally. I can almost see a situation where he misses out as a batsman and is overtaken by someone like Edwards for the lower middle order spot if that hasn't happened already with Webster.
