New Zealand odi team of the 90s, should've been world beators?

Or it's his opinion. I don't think there's any need to be rude about it.

That's why I said 2026-27, because it's the next time we tour Australia :wallbash:

New Zealand odi team of the 90s, should've been world beators?

Hornet averaged 20  Seriously, how hilarious is that - there's guys we're throwing up, regular top order players for NZ, who played 50 ODIs, and averaged less than Kyle Jamieson does with the bat. Craig McMillan was on another level too, played 197 ODIs and averaged 28. Chris Cairns...

Check back in around the 2026-27 season, for more '**** TJB got right'.

Yeah, it'd certainly be an upgrade. Still, I believe it has to be an opener - not that I've ever been one, but it's such a specialist mindset.

Won the Champions Trophy in 2000, so that is some form of silverware. Incidentally, you listed Craig Spearman who averaged 18 opening the batting in ODIs  And only one of those guys in the XI you listed (Harris) played in 92.

At some stage, they're going to have to say to a young domestic opener, or even a relatively mature one, that we're going to back you. Whether you average 25 or 45, you're our guy - we back ourselves to mould you into doing what is a specialist job. Do what Mark Richardson did: just will and...

Meh to that Young news. He scored a truckload for Durham last season, did he not?

Yeah he does exist in a pretty unique environment where he's often expected to score quickly and with some level of consistency even though he doesn't face a lot of balls or get a lot of opportunities. That role in the World Cup was pretty tough, when you think that your no.7 generally gets to...

Nathan Smith is tailor made for English conditions, especially early season. He'll rip it up for Worcester

Foulkes!!! But yeah, isn't Smith a better option? Man, that guy is going to end up the Duane Monkley of cricket. And interesting that Finn Allen has a back injury, certainly didn't seem to exist in playing four rounds of golf this week and swinging off his arse in QT and Te Arai.

Ten players you are glad you saw in their prime

Yep, was gutted not to see Nortje down here, and I absolutely love watching Wood bowl. IPL I could give a **** less about - never going to see that - and Lockie's return to form this summer was genuinely fun to watch. Starc, certainly at his peak but not anymore. Unfortunately, none of those...

100% man. I'm pining for the next guy who does it, although the era of nasty quicks seems to be well behind us
