    Hammond faced very weak bowling across his career and that seems to be a key parameter with Gooch so high. Would say Weekes/Walcott faced better bowling for sure but with kinder home conditions and less longevity.

    I'm gonna lend a vote to Boycott soon. His strike rate was problematic at times but an opener gets a bit more leeway for being dour and he's one of the most accomplished openers to debut since the War.

    Kirsten v Smith is 50-50 imo and most people will disagree with me there so I go for the more unconventional pick. Could also have gone for Mitchell or even Herbie Taylor though.
