Years or Test - Which is the best way to test longevity?

Years with batsmen. Mixed bag with bowlers. There are cases where it's not completely black and white though.

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

SA's short-pitched hit the deck style suited Gooch. There is evidence of that. He struggled against Australia because they had the best swing bowling resources. Swing did cause him issues (Alderman!) but he does have two hundreds opening v Hadlee, a good ton in NZ and the ball swung a lot at...

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

You said Gooch doesn't have the output when his struggles came mostly against one team. So you are in fact punishing him for a lopsided volume of tests against the only opponent he was below par against. And we can't just say Inzi might have done better against Australia and SA if he played...

    Graham Gooch vs Younis Khan

Yeah I voted for Gooch because I think he's the better tough conditions bat but agree Younis deserves a lot of credit for being so clinical on flat tracks. It's why I think Younis is better than Inzi in tests. Better at going big.

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

Gooch did have the output. He struggled v one side. Averaged 48 against other teams. Inzi was probably worse against both sides he struggled against, he just didn't play them as often so his average was less impacted. And he had the privilege of playing half his career in the 2000s. That's...

    Inzamam vs Gooch vs Chanderpaul

Gooch had one tour of Australia in his prime and succeeded so to say he outright failed there is simplistic mate. I've seen a lot of Inzi on fast pitches and he had clear fundamental problems. And also, those runs in England and NZ for him came against attacks that were generally a far cry from...

    Cairns Vs Flintoff

Yeah Buttler would be the rival candidate. Think I'd still take Flintoff.

Debate thread for 2024 Ranking of batsmen poll

Thought Graeme Smith at 30 was a little high tbh. He's a top player and a welcome addition to the top 50, but above the likes of Neil Harvey, Gordon Greenidge, Rohan Kanhai and Martin Crowe is a stretch.

    Cairns Vs Flintoff

Flintoff is probably England's greatest ever ODI cricketer tbh

Debate thread for 2024 Ranking of batsmen poll

Yeah think Smith at 30 and Sehwag at 37 are both a bit high.

    VVS vs Inzamam

Tbf I think Australia records is a big point in Laxman's favour mate. Doesn't need to average 50 v them for that to be the case.

    2024 Ranking of Batsmen Poll

Have always reckoned Lawry was slightly better than Simpson.
