*Official* New Zealand tour of India 2024

Funny I was just watching the WTC final and then saw this and realised this WTC final is inconsequential compared to the two greatest achievements in test cricket history (whitewashing India in India, being the inaugural WTC champion for the first 144 years of test cricket)

What a great series it was. India with absolute legends of the game like Kohli, Sharma, and Ashwin as well as their new young superstars.

Whatever it takes!!!
It was a very NZ win too, in the sense that outside of the first test, there was always a point in the game when it seemed like India would storm back but NZ did juust enough to shut that down and then buckled down and got the win. It was not a 3-0 where they dominated India but I think it shows how mentally tough and meticulously planned they were, for the series.

Outside of playing well, NZ also lucked out with the tosses/first use of conditions, which proved to be quite decisive. Rohit, Kohli and Ashwin were all rightly axed, as all three were awful in their last season. What a difference getting rid of them has made. India just needs some luck with tosses/first use. Expecting a series win in NZ next year to make it even.

India is a monster team at home and on paper they had the much better team , plenty of times they won at home without winning the toss , need to just take the defeats like men. NZ deserved to win there was no luck involved.

I don't think Ashwin was axed I think at 39 and with Washington Sundar emerging he felt the time was right to step aside.

It would be interesting.

Just looking at the bowling, it's likely a November series, which means spin is completely out of the equation. Don't even bother bringing them. Add to that the fact that because it's a 2-Test series, provided he's fit, Bumrah will play both Tests. Despite this, NZ seems to have effectively neutralised him, which will make it difficult, though there'll be no shortage of guys to step up. On top of that, most of the guys just haven't been to NZ before. England is an OK approximation conditions-wise but it's not quite there.

With our guys, I'm more confident with the bowling than the batting. I'm pretty confident that Blundell at least will be retired by then, but other than that it'll probably be an OK side. Unless it's an absolute disaster I'd go 2-0 NZ.

Defeat is a defeat. But there are reasons why you lose. India was no longer a monster side at home in 2024. Did you even see how close India England series was earlier that year? India were lucky to win the tosses in the 2nd and 3rd test after being down 1-0. (Toss does matter when you are no longer as good and the gap between the sides is small). They would have even lost to bazball at home, if not for magician Kuldeep and few tosses. Unfortunately kuldeep went out with hernia against NZ. Then Ashwin got smashed to all parts by Southee and Ravindra. Almost every single spinner that series completely outbowled Ashwin. While Rohit looked like he couldn't buy a run against medium pace. Massive decline from veterans was a key factor.
