Asif was amazing as a bowler but so was Shoaib. Peak Shoaib might actually edge out peak Asif which is saying something. Akhtar was kind of unique in cricket history.

I don't see how Shoaib can be picked it he breaks down every series.

Didn't Shoaib beat Asif with his jockstrap or something after asif made a yo moma joke in the dressing room?

Don't know who was better tbh. Asif was crazy skillful and Shoaib was crazy fast. I'd say Shoaib on a flat one and Asif if there is some grass or moisture

Considering neither had a proper full test career (for differing reasons), I'm just picking on quality here, and Asif was simply better. Akhtar has quite good performances but Asif's numbers are basically Marshall/Bumrah esque when you factor in the pitches, with match winning performances everywhere

Asif is the greatest new ball bowler I have seen.

Akthar is the greatest shock bowler I have seen.

But I think on balance Asif was more consistent and then less likely to be tonked around.

Asif suffered more from drop catches actually, especially in the 2009 Aus and 2010 England series when his figures look ordinary because so many drops happened.

What's discount factor?
So there's an idea called avg_wkt_quality which is basically the weighted mean of the avgs of all the batsmen whom the bowler has gotten out. For eg if he's gotten out a guy avging 50 out twice and a guy avging 20 out once, it comes out to be 40 ((50+50+20)/3).
Discount factor = Avg/avg_wkt_quality (the lower the better).

Asif only played two tests.

Akthars is mixed but overall Tendulkar averages 40 pls against him.
I only know about the Kolkata dismissal of Tendulkar and that’s what made me decide to go for the Rawalpindi Express. Those two balls must have been a high so high…ecstasy
