South Africa team selection

Only issue with moving Aiden to open in ODI's is where do we bat temba. If temba is batting lower then opener then we can't have both him and rassie in the team for me.
Rassie to me is clearly the back up to Bavuma. I think that’s also why he isn’t on a permanent deal.

Honestly I have lots of respect for Rassie the ODI player. He gave us two good WCs and he is around now in a senior capacity. Good pro. @StephenZA have you come around?
Nope.

Seriously though I think he has been a great servant and I like him as a person, and I don't deny his service to SA. I'm just the person who thought we should have given other younger players a chance earlier and developed them. Rassie always had his limits for me and nothing was going to turn him into a better player. So it was just delaying SA team development and that's why I got frustrated with his selection.

By far his best format. Thought he looked the best he has ever done in the last Champs Trophy as well.

Oh yeah I’m totally with you on that, especially with his Test selections. On a side note, are we all for Shuks new LO plans?

Domestic second div tho. Our best t20 wrist spinner is Dawood. Worth playing as a specialist imo.
We've got to think outside the box because wristspin is an area where we lack depth and if the selectors want spinners that can bat then all players need to be considered ..

Also the SA T20 is our premier T20 competition ..
Thomas Kaber took 10 wickets @16 , Economy 8,05 and he's a left arm wrist spinner which is even rarer ..

Robbie P is clearly a big fan of Kaber. He should be our next white-ball coach all things considered. I like his style.

I'm okay with the bat deep idea. I don't like today's team in that Muthusamy, Linde and Bosch shouldnt all be there. But happy enough to try them all and see how it goes now. 2 of the three based on conditions should be good enough.

6 bowling options is also the reason but then again I guess Markram or Brevis or Ferreira if picked could bring their arm over.

Okay so I think it’s clear Linde has lost a step with the ball. I was also surprised at how well Muthusamy bowled except for the last few balls of his spell. I didn’t think he was that crafty.

It does feel like we struggling for true ARs to join Jansen or the correct balance.

Linde's bowling has dropped off massively and Muthusamy's batting isn't suited to this format. In many ways Maharaj and Fortuin are probably more reliable bowlers than both but are more like can chip in from #9 types and that's just going by eye. Simmonds & Subrayen in the same category as the last 2.

its the same with seamer ARs in Jansen who is the banker with Bosch and Mulder.

So the first thing is that we should have genuine batsmen to #7. That likely means playing Mulder. Unsure his best position. With Rickelton keeping it is also very doable. Jansen at 8 along with the 3 best bowlers available for the pitch. Still have Markram with the ball as an extra.

Maybe Linde just going through a bad bowling spell they all go through it he needs to give more flight and guile like he used to than dart it in wonder if he had an injury that affected this.
