Jadeja has surpassed my expectations as a batsman by socring 500+ runs in away series. Yes, tracks were flat mostly but as a lower order batsman you have to be very consistent to get 500+ runs.
If I run a filter for 300+ wickets and 3000+ runs then entire history we have 5 all rounders who make the cut.
Jadeja is currently averaging highest in batting in that group. His bolwing average is 3rd lowest in the group.
His away bowling average is 36 , but he averages below 30 in Aus, SA, WI and SL. NZ and Eng is the two places where he has struggled big time, but then some one like Murali struggled in India and Aus. Some one like Warne struggled in India and WI. Not saying that he is in the same league as those two as a bowler, but Jadeja gets unnoticed despite doing so well. At least I did not pay much attention to Jadeja before this series. Not sure how many cases we have where bowling all rounder scored 500+ in a away test series. I surely rate him much higher as a batsman now.
Scoring runs in away series is harder for most batsmen, but in the last 5 years he has done really well as a lower order batsman to average close to 50 when playing away.
I don't know how long he will play, but has done very well. Jadeja can make a case to play as a batsman in pretty much all current batting line ups.
