a bit ahead for me but not massively so
Yeah I’m not sure without taking a closer look where exactly I’d go, I don’t really have set rankings beyond a certain point, but somewhere around them feels right, whether above, below, or in between.

don't really think Kapil is an ATVG bowler but he is very good, above Starc/Johnson/Gillespie types
So I go

All Time Great
Great
World Class
Very Good / above test standard
Test Standard

Etc etc.

Let's say he's world class, but when you look at the fact they he played in the 80's of all decades, even that isn't indisputable.

All I'm saying

You said he's great, and as Great is just below ATG by your standards, can you agree that Kapil is close to being an ATG, but falls short?

ATVG Bowler + 30 plus avg batsman = ATG.

If an ATVG bowler remains ATVG cricketer even after scoring 5000+ runs, whats the point of scoring all those runs 🤔
I have bowlers like Courtney Walsh and Waqar in the "great" or what you call ATVG category. Kapil isn't in that tier as a bowler.

Since when is very good = above test standard?

You are playing with words deliberately because you got caught trying to diminish Kapil.
Kapil not being a World Class bowler is laughable tbh..... Yes, 80s were bowler friendly, and no, that wasn't for India. It's like saying Roberts wasn't Great because WI had so many ATG bowlers around then and shortly after.

No he said Kapil is an 'above test standard bowler'. Basically like a Sarfraz Nawaz/Kaspa level bowler.

Then when I pressed him what he meant he refused to respond and now is trying to pretend it means 'very good'.

He is such a weasel.

Never trust anything Kyear says.

I consider Waqar and Walsh ATGs.
Kapil just below Walsh.. ie ATVG.

Anyway, you think Kapil is 2 leagues below Donald.. And Kapil's 30+ batting avg is not good enough to bridge the gap.

Going by that logic, Sobers is at least 4 or 5 leagues below Bradman as batsman.right?
