However, will be very happy if Root gets to most runs, it's been a long time since big test records have been broken!

... Actually in recent times alot of the big records have fallen or been in danger

Kohli passing Tendulkar's ODI number of centuries
Patel taking 10 wickets in a test innings to be the 3rd ever

Mulder nearly breaking Lara's record.

Anderson becoming the record holder for a paceman over Mcgrath etc

Gill becoming the first to do the 250/150 in a test.


People in this internet age are soon becoming de-sensitised to it because they don't have to wait as long in the past for more milestones to fall.

If Mulder had indeed gone past Lara's 400,then what? What would some fans then look forward to next? Root's chase of Sachin?

He did play some very very big innings when India really needed it from him & I certainly remember that valuable 4 runs he scored in total in the 2003 World Cup Final chasing Australia's 359 that day.

I wouldn't say so. Both have had equally match winning knocks and been just as important for their ailing teams over the years
