English Domestic Season 2025

Nice 130 at no. 10 for Tom Hartley, not sure why he was batting below Blatherwick anyway.
Highest ever first class scores for a Number 8 (Green 160) and a Number 10 (Hartley) for Lancashire and their highest 9th wicket partnership (Green and Hartley 212) previous 142.

Lancashire currently have two players averaging over 100 in the championship (Ashton Turner 141.50 & Chris Green 100.33).
In the three matches with the Kookaburra they have knocked out 9 centuries: Green, Turner each 2, plus Jennings, Wells, Bohannon, Hurst and Hartley. It's the second innings within those three matches in which 3 players have scored a 100.

Can they take 20 Gloucester wickets in two and a half days for less than 550 runs? Somehow doubt it.

The games going to be finished in less than 2 days.
Not my idea of a welcome change tbh.
Yeah, but the 2 days' play are pretty entertaining. Maybe some of the batters could learn to play spin better than what we've seen here.

Anyway, Somerset are 62 for 5 chasing 86.

Did you see the pitch yesterday before it started to spin? Was one of the greenest pitches I've ever seen.

But yeah at the same time cricket shouldn't be a batsman game all the time too.

Fair do's. I was trying to understand how a pitch that started off giving undue help to the seamers could become a spinners' paradise so quickly, but those photos provide a clue.
I recall that there has always been a fair discrepancy between Jack Leach's home record at Ciderbad and his away FC record. Now in fairness to him, he's bowled generally reasonably well for England in Asia, where he has obviously learnt to bowl on spinning tracks. The other side of the coin is that his lack of revs means he has been too easily lined up on pitches that don't provide him with help. That's the issue with preparing tracks like that.

Oddly, he was the seventh bowler used by his captain yesterday. But yeah, decent performance. Really encouraging from an England pov.
Unlikely to get him into the England team for the 5th Test as England give their players every chance, but it’s as if the selection of Dawson got up his nose lol

The flip side of that is the habit of other countries of preparing pitches that don't spin meaning they tend to not have any decent spinners at all.

I would definitely say that's quite true of Surrey now. They had two quite promising bowlers whom had to leave because they weren't getting picked because Surrey tended to produce seam friendly pitches. Virdi and Moriarty.
