4th Test (Old Trafford, Manchester) - 23rd to 27th of July

U19 12th Man
Hello everyone.

My goodness, where has the time gone? Are we already leading up to the penultimate test? I think I speak for everyone in saying what we have witnessed over 15 days of test cricket is something absolutely extraordinary. From seesawing encounters, to on field sledging and send-offs, the spices in the recipe are the gift that keeps on giving.

England were victorious in a thrilling 22 run win at Lords, the home of cricket, against a spirited Indian resistance. If England win this match, they will be the first victors of the Tendulkar-Anderson trophy (with the controversial retirement of the Pataudi trophy). India cannot lose this match. They must either win (most ideal) or at minimum draw in order to prevent England from having the series in the bag. All signs indicate there will be more drama to come. This will be one for the history books, I'm sure.

Obviously I hope we win, but wouldn’t it feel a bit anti-climactic if England win at OT and take an unassailable lead in the series? Feel there are plenty of twists and turns to come!

Assuming the England top seven is unchanged (despite the obvious shortcomings) then a lower four of Woakes, Dawson, Atkinson and Carse does seem very deep!

I've no idea if Archer will play at Old Trafford, he said in an interview yesterday he bowled a few more overs than expected and he is being managed still, I assume in the same manner as Bumrah. That being said, if Wood is a potential option for the 5th Test, Archer may play and be rested for The Oval.

I guess there are worse problems to have for the selectors.

I'm expecting them to go with:

Crawley
Duckett
Pope
Root
Brook
Stokes
Smith
Dawson
Atkinson
Carse
Tongue

Archer definitely won't play, and think they'll rest Woakes. I'd personally go Bethell in for Pope too, but don't see that happening.

I think Archer will play

I think Atkinson will replace Woakes

then pope could do with a rest and Bethell comes in

Dawson to take over the bashir role

the rest as in the 3rd test

Chris Woakes has a strong record at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, particularly in Test matches. In Tests, he has an impressive average of 17.37, with 27 wickets in 6 matches played. In ODIs, he has taken 8 wickets at the venue. His performances at Old Trafford include a five-wicket haul that helped England secure a series win and a crucial 84 not out in a Test win against Pakistan.

now that may see Woakes retained
