3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

If India bottle this(looks extremely likely), I really have to blame how the captain played in this innings. Looked like a tailender out there, missing full tosses. This guy gets rattled even if there is slight movement in the pitch. For someone that's coming off scoring near 450 runs in a single match, that was garbage batting.
Yeah I'm sure he'll shed the tag with time, there's nothing particular about the way he plays which makes him a terminal case even if he plays with quite hard hands - but at the present time, the "flat track bully" tag is very well earned.

Not just that, but they had a keeper who could stand up to the stumps to two of the fast bowlers in order to keep the batsmen in their crease. It undoubtedly contributed to the Crawley wicket (he'd have probably got out soon anyway tbf).

I'd also add that Smith's dismissal was one of a tired keeper who'd been out in the heat for a long period. That's why I'm fully expecting Pant to make a match winning knock today.

The whole keeper/sub thing needs looking at, especially when India had an alternative keeper (Rahul) in their side. One team is effectively playing with 12 players here.
I just don't understand the reason the rule was changed in the first place. What actual problem were they trying to solve?

are we sure he'll shed it with time or are you trying to be nice?

In fairness, that was a good ball. Only him and Pope (and yes I know he has a defence more appropriate for Frimley Green 2s), of the top 7 were really got out. The other five should hang their heads in shame as I said above. It was in England's hands to get a lead that would have been decisive, but they largely threw it away on their own.

You still need HM'S in gen 6 don't you? Been ages since I played X and y
I think you're right actually. It was gen 7 (sun and moon) where they added random Tauros smashing and Charizard flying you everywhere

They did the same thing in Australia the tour before last. Rule definitely needs to be changed

Which makes it more unconscionable that the utter roads that were prepared for the first two tests. It was pretty obvious, at least to me, that with a bit more help, that him and one or two others were going to look a lot more vulnerable.

Not very sure of that at all actually. Would be a huge change to his game and might end up affecting his output on flat decks too.
It's his temperament that needs work more than his technique (though like I said, he does have very hard hands). He gets very obviously frazzled once the ball moves, as it did last night.

I remember that game at Indore, he played one of the worst shots imaginable to Lyon once he saw how much the ball was turning. Loses his composure too easily.

It's why the "you can't be critical of England preparing pitches that suit their team" line was so incredibly unconvincing. It's just blatantly untrue.

No idea, especially in this day and age where every team seems to have about two keepers in their line ups anyway. It should be like a concussion sub, if Pant can't keep, then he can't bat either. India have managed to create a side of 12 players when one got 'injured', normally you'd lose one.

England should have Foakes on standby for the next Test for when Smith doesn't quite take one cleanly!!

I do think the ridiculously dry Summer we're having is possibly part of it. India couldn't have chosen a better time to come here. Ideally, we'd have had a lot more green in our pitches.

Headingley was okay
I bet the chief execs of all 3, will be utterly delighted that they have had play last until well into the 5th day. These days, many tests don't last past the early part of the 4th day. I'm glad that Carse has bowled better this innings. I honestly think he's been better than his figures have showed.

Are there no mirrors in England home dressing rooms?

And there are people who think that injury sub rules wouldn't be abused and manipulated
