England have batted excellently. Bazball is evolving.

Almost time for India to dig up Plan B. What does Gill have up his sleeve.

More surprised that Pope has managed to stick around for so long without reverting to type.
That gap between bat and pad hasn't gone away. I'm amazed that this isn't something that he's not gone away to work on as he isn't involved in the white ball squads. He had plenty of time to do so before the domestic season given that England's diary was all white ball from the new year.

Well he was almost out twice in his first three balls.
Yeah I mean he's at least made an effort to grind things out. He's always seemed like he's adopted the frenzied approach of Bazball despite himself. I don't remember him being this gung-ho a batsman when he first appeared on the scene.

@ england fans is this pacy and bouncy pitch with lot of sideways movement specifically asked by ben and baz😀
Lord's curator doesn't listen to McCullum, but the pitch had lots of swing and seam movement but the pace is just not there and bounce, well, it's low, and low uneven bounce can be just as hard to score off.

He was always a naturally attacking batsman when younger, but his defensive flaws were shown up in international cricket. Don't forget that he had a prolific county championship average, although that was inflated quite a bit when the Oval used to produce roads for many years. Even so, his average was apparently a good deal less away from there. They have stopped doing that over the last few years. I do think England hold themselves back when players continually go for big shots when they have just scored a boundary. When you consider a regular approach in an ODI, if you have just got a big boundary, there is nothing wrong with knocking the next ball into the gap and getting the single. I sometimes think the overly gung-ho approach has not helped some players. I remember enjoying certain overs during the last Ashes where Cummins put everyone back and England scored 6 singles in an over. Very intelligent cricket. They just play so dumb at times and that even includes Root, who spent the India away series playing ramps and reverses when I just thought "play your own game".
