I respectfully disagree. Think Roberts is the best pacer I won't term an ATG, but he certainly is a bit over mythologised. Think there would be a difference in output over career, a considerable one at that. It's close in the sense that if you replace one with the other I don't see them putting massively better stats, but the actual answer is never in doubt and I can't see myself ever deviating from Donald.
If anything, I think he isn't mytholised enough compared to the other great pacemen of his time. Both Hall and Lillee are clearly more mythologised by a mile.I respectfully disagree. They are more but Roberts is a very solid 4th. I would argue he is pretty on par with Hall on being mythologised. If anything, I think he isn't mytholised enough compared to the other great pacemen of his time. Both Hall and Lillee are clearly more mythologised by a mile.
What about him do you find mythologised or even overrated? They are more but Roberts is a very solid 4th. I would argue he is pretty on par with Hall on being mythologised.
Not overrated per say, but he clearly comes with a mystic air. I really like Roberts but his home record is lacking compared to his reputation. What about him do you find mythologised or even overrated?
That is kind of exactly why I think if he played in Donald's shoes in the vastly, vastly more pace productive 1990s South Africa rather than pre 1976 West Indies, his average would be a couple points lower. Not overrated per say, but he clearly comes with a mystic air. Maybe? Also had just a 9 year long career. I definitely think Donald would have done visibly better in his shoes at his home. That is kind of exactly why I think if he played in Donald's shoes in the vastly, vastly more pace productive 1990s South Africa rather than pre 1976 West Indies, his average would be a couple points lower.
Er, is that really much of a point? Donald is 11 years, Roberts is 10 years, granted the prior had some extraordinary reasons for the short career. I agree Donald would've done better but not by too muchMaybe? Also had just a 9 year long career. I definitely think Donald would have done visibly better in his shoes at his home.
Donald debuted at 25, you and I both know the circumstances. I will agree with Trundler here, Donald is significantly closer to Ambrose than Roberts.Er, is that really much of a point? Donald is 11 years, Roberts is 10 years. I agree Donald would've done better but not by too much
In my list, Ambrose comes at 5, Donald at 12 and Roberts at 17 so I generally agree with that sentiment. Mostly don't like getting into potential early careers of either Donald or Lindwall.Donald debuted at 25, you and I both know the circumstances. I will just say fining Sir Andy for longevity is fine but Donald isn't. Also Roberts at 17???
