This must be the worst English attack in living memory. I can't think of any point going back to the immediately post WW2 period where England would've fielded a worse attack.
Some of their late 80's/early 90's ones look like absolute shockers. I think the seamers individually are at least OK ones.

Maybe India have decided the English attack poses little threat and that it might be worth Pant having a red hot go to see what happens. If it comes off, they'll be miles ahead. If not, they might be backing the lower order to get them enough runs anyway.
Nah Pant does his own thing. Pretty sure he wants to score quicker than Jamie Smith.. Show them that he is the best and the most attacking keeper batter in the world.

Ego is bruised... as he witnessed an 80 ball century yesterday with people then comparing Jamie to Gilly

These guys are batting like they have only 20 overs to bowl at England or something

Need to relax a bit
It’s fantastic. England are going to water at the first whiff of grapeshot. They’re a fair weather outfit

Jamie Smith was being touted yesterday as potentially the next Gilchrist and the best keeper-bat of all time.

he isn’t even the best keeper-bat in this series ffs
at least Smith doesn't drop howlers and can get down to his ankles

Broadly agree, but the late 1980s post-Willis & Botham line-ups say 'hi'.

I was thinning of the 46/47 Ashes as being potentially worse. I don't think Tongue or Bashir should make the average CC attack let alone a test side. This has to be top 3 at least.

Good responsible batting from Gill

The last time these two batted together with Pant going in T10 mode, Gill lost his own wicket trying to hit Bashir out of the park

In between flashy strokemakers like Jaiswal, Pant etc, you can see how important it is to have players grinding it out there like Pujara. Elevates their importance. It's invaluable to have players like Sundar around in that lower middle order.
