Where Does Rishabh Pant Stand Among the Great Wicketkeeper-Batters in Test Cricket?

eh, bit disrespectful to Kohli comparing him with Gilchrist, as great as the latter was. Kohli faced and excelled at for a long time at a different set of challenges entirely as a batsman.
Kohli is of course the better batter. My question was how good must Pant become as a batsman so that overall as a wkb, he can be rated equal/ahead of Gilly as a wkb?

Ah ok, misread it. Probably never, right? The gulf in their batting will never outstrip each other by enough to compensate for the vast difference in their wicketkeeping skills.

Gilchrist is like the perfect choice in ATG team
1. Great batsman. Good keeper
2. Plays at number 7 position

I do not think there is any one to challenge him for a place in an ATG team unless someone wants great keeper and good batsman(Alan Knott)
Think it's basically a toss up based on preference.

Think it's basically a toss up based on preference.

In an all time XI with six top class batsmen including Don and maybe Hadlee who can bat, the balance of the side allows for a specialist keeper.

Alan Knott offers unmatched consistency and technical brilliance behind the stumps which becomes even more valuable when the batting lineup is already stacked. With run scoring no longer a concern, selecting the better wicketkeeper is justifiable.

I think by some (far from a majority or anything) - Sangakkara is seen as a viable alternative to Gilchrist, despite not keeping his entire career. You’d have to say somewhere between Flower and Sanga at least (presuming he also continues keeping for the rest of his career, which I would also consider far from a given). I don’t see him reaching that level.

But there's also the fact that Sanga was legit high quality keeper, unlike Pant. The answer really is never here

Well yes, that’s why I specified if he reaches a higher level than Flower with the bat whilst continuing to keep for his whole career - which Sanga didn’t (otherwise Sanga would be a no brainer) - with the way India’s been going recently it would not surprise me if they ask him to put down the gloves and step up as a pure bat.

For me it’s quite obvious.

Only as batsmen : Flower > Gilchrist > Pant
If you can include ABD, it is him

In ATG team, the choices are Knott(great keeper who is a decent batsman) or if you want a great batsman and good keeper, it’s Adam Gilchrist

I want Jurel in the team by now

There's more. It's like:
Sanga>Walcott>ABD>Flower>Gilchrist as batsmen

Walcott scored 888 runs as a WK
Sanga the WK averages just 40.
ABD kept wickets for 20% of his career.

That’s why I did not include all of them.
For now : Flower > Gilchrist > Pant
