1st Test (Leeds) - 20th June

A Bumrah-less attack would have had England with a 150+ lead.
A Bumrah-led attack with proper good fielding would have had India with a 150+ lead.
Instead we get a Bumrah-led attack with crap fielding, which has ensured parity after the first innings.

This might be the most crap batting I've seen in an innings where a team scored 450+ ngl

The bowling selection for India next match will be interesting. They can’t make wholesale changes but outside Bumrah who actually performed to even justify being retained? Siraj I guess, despite losing the plot at times, but he can’t be an opening bowler. Prasidh and Thakur need to go. Who comes in to replace them and ideally take the new ball? Akashdeep was pretty competent but a bit unlucky back in Australia, and seemed to perform a decent role opening the bowling instead of Siraj. Wouldn’t surprise me if Prasidh hangs around though as despite being very expensive he keep getting random wickets. I’ve met people who attribute India’s competitive position in the Sydney game to him and that his IPL success justifies his place. Selectors probably think the same. Which means probably only Thakur will be swapped out next game, likely for Reddy.

India v England should not be a 5 match series! 4 is plenty. This series is going to become a joke towards the end and especially when Bumrah sits out.

If you ignore Bumrah, haven't seen a worse Indian fast bowling unit since the mid 00s. Cannon fodder. All the batters have to do is be at the non-strikers end when Bumrah comes back for his 5 over spell or play him out for a dozen or so balls.

Bumrah 5/83 (plus 3 dropped chances & noball)
Others 5/382

Since Bumrah can only play either the 2nd test or the 3rd, if he ends up bowling a lot on day 5, I think he'd just play the 3rd at Lords.

I don't see how Prasidh retains his spot after the hiding he got. Siraj however may escape the axe due to lack of options.. but both need to be dropped for the 2nd test if Bumrah plays.

Bumrah/Siraj
Akash deep
Arshdeep

13 --- Number of catches dropped off Harry Brook in Tests in the past 12 months, out of 26 chances off legal deliveries. No other batter has been let off as often in this period.

Prasidh needs overs to develop, he really hasn't gotten the long rope Ishant/Umesh got. Siraj I thought was unlucky after his first spell, and got the workhorse treatment. Arshdeep should be nowhere near, he'll just get carted as much and then new posts like this will whine about which other Indian fast bowler will come in. If anything, Shardul has to go for either an extra fast bowler or Kuldeep.

What overs to develop, and at this level? You're either born with game sense or you're not. There's a difference between a plan gone awry and no plan at all. It's plainly evident Prasidh doesn't know what he's after running up to bowl unless it's been forcefed to him on account of his prior failings, like the short outside off "ploy" he resorted to today. Reminds me of noone so much as Munaf Patel but without even his smidgeon of control.

Jaiswal will keep the great Indian tradition of classy catches well alive into the 2040s.

Put him in the outfield ffs. Absolutely useless.

I agree with playing 4 genuine pacers but Prasidh is not it. He's 29 years old and has shown nothing except some bounce. At least Arshdeep has international exposure and may fare better under a T20 like onslaught from bazballers. Can't do any worse than Prasidh. Plus he's younger, so may develop.

Unfortunately I doubt Gambhir has the balls to play a four man pace attack, if anything, they'll bring back NKR for Thakur + 3 pacers + Jadeja. Same old story like Australia.

The Pommy Marnus.

Can't wait for the melt downs on here when he inevitably reverts to mean.
I * think * those wickets will suit his game more if anything. He's clearly a see n hit sort with more than a touch of premeditation about him. Factor in predictable bounce and he should be right at home. Different pedigree of fast bowling though obv but think he has a 100 in him at the very least.
