Well maybe I should've Gambhired more.

Tough to really know. The bowlers will get the blame for not defending a pretty high score but really this is mostly down to the batters. Not only was there a nasty collapse Day 2 when the chance was there to really kill off the game, they threw away their wickets a bit on Day 1 when we should've got to 300. I'm not even that convinced the bowlers were that bad either, the pitch just flattened out a lot.

Definitely going to be some questions about the selection though. I don't know if Boland would've made a difference, but he definitely did against India and might've here. And Green batting 3 was weird at time and looks far worse now.

All that said, pretty remarkable stuff from the South African batters regardless. Yesterday everyone was rushing to write off Markram. Now he's etched himself into immortality.

Watching Steve Smith sook and overplay an injury after dropping a catch was embarassing. You're a grown man ffs, toughen up.

And Cam Green is just a pudding of a sportsman

We've fallen a long way from the likes of Border and Waugh

Whatever it takes!!!
I think it is to Australia's credit that even with 69 runs to win and a pretty old ball (which is as significant a factor as anything in SEN tests) and 8 wickets in hand, this is still only a 70% chance for RSA.

I do think conditions (and toss) have played a huge role in this final just like the 2021 final. I also think overall Australia have been the best team in this cycle of WTC, just like India were in the past 2 cycles. It would be kinda ironic and funny that for the 3rd time in a row, the best team in the league does not win the final.

Oh dear

Huge Aussie choke here potentially?
Massive choke. We have forgotten how to bowl apparently.

South Africa playing like they have all been on the Columbian marching powder overnight. Hopefully they test all of their samples A through Z after the test match.

I didn't see too many signs that the bowlers have forgotten to bowl. it's just that the pitch isn't doing much beyond staying low, which is a curse anyway (see: Smith's injury). the two wickets SA lost were given away by them, Starc/Haze batted without a worry all morning. it was the best day to bat and Australia had one wicket left and SA had 10.

Truth be told, there was plenty of turn and weird uneven bounce here, consistently Australia just kept hoping pitch would behave like it did on day 1 and 2, needed more accurate Lyon and Cummins spells.

Yes yes I like this, it was the conditions' fault

With the toss, win the game. We never had a chance

I do agree with this sentiment a bit. From the bits I saw yesterday Lyon was particularly poor. He didn't have his usual metronomic length, kept going too short or full and allowing the batsmen to drive/cut/back punch for easy 1's/2's. Half the reason his econ looks more reasonable is because bavuma was on 1 leg and SA couldn't turn some 1's/2's into 2's/3's. There's definitely something in it if you bowl well as a spinner; Head got the odd one to rip when he bowled, and lyon did as well later in the day. Lyon's line was off when he did though, so the ball ended up down leg to a point where is was leaking byes.

Lyon seemed more flash than substance, and the conditions did genuinely flatten out enough that the Aus pace attack couldn't get more seam movement to threaten the edges/stumps (given how Mulder played at 3). Still, well played by Markram and Bavuma, should be a fun finish overall.
