Starc's first spell was brilliant. As good as I think I've seen him bowl in a test match. Should have had at least one more.

A lot of balls dropping short. Cummins induced a number of edges which didn't carry as well. Seems an odd deck to me.

Yes. Inglis would have been worse for sure
Yeah like are we expecting konstas or inglis to just press at that rabada ball instead of going at it with hard hands early?

I get why we went with the squad we did, but in hindsight it definitely feels a top order batsmen short. If we knew marnus was going to open from the rip I wouldn't have been opposed to McSweeney. It's a very dour top 3, but that's honestly not much different to greens usual "I'm going to have a nets session hitting half volleys to the ring fielder" 20(60) starting masterclass, and atleast McSweeney has some recent form at #3.

Since Warner retired Labuschagne has 417 runs @ 21.94 in 12 tests. I cannot recall another top order bat ever getting so much leeway.

If he fails next innings surely he has to dropped, which makes a mockery of him already being picked in the squad for West Indies 3 test tour

Patterson has the better claim for being an in-form #3, but I don't think they can be blamed for feeling this isn't the time to bring him in.

I think the main argument for Konstas is that regardless of the runs he scores, having someone like him in the top 3 seems to have a positive effect on the others by shifting the pressure a bit. Again, I think it's understandable not to pick him for this particular game, but it was always hard to see this top order working out.
