Mike Proctor vs Kapil Dev

Who would have been the better cricketer if Proctor had a full test career?

I'm sure Harry Potter would have also been a great test cricketer. He too didn't have full career.

Fun fact.
There's a rugby player from Australia called Harry Potter. He played 2 rugby tests last year and is a good chance to add to that this year. This HP was born the year before the first book was published.

Born about 5 months after release
Fair enough. I heard the detail on the radio - they or I obvious got it wrong. I didn't bother fact checking.

Perhaps he was born a year before the first book was popular. Would've needed a thick skin going through school either way

Similar, but Procter has more runs, more wickets a better bowling average (19.53 v 22,32) and only a marginally lower batting average (36.01 v 37.79).
However, we are comparing Procter and Dev and the former is well ahead in all four areas.
Lets not forget he was a great slip too. Um but yeah on that slight tangent, looking at pure batting averages to compare Procter and Imran would be a mistake. Similarish to Beefy and Imran.

That does includes Imran's Test stats though. Though it's not like his non Test FC stats are different at all than his Tests ones, but playing more Tests in prime than Non Test FC think makes the comparison not totally fair imo.

Obviously Mike Procter is a ridiculous cricketer. If you read across his FC stats he could have been the GOAT but I don’t think those read across’s work in real life and there’s enough variance of outcome that you have to pick the person who actually had an exceptional test career

I mean its obviously parallel to Barry, I don’t think anyone here is calling Procter > Dev, just that if things worked out he probably would’ve been better. Like how most people wouldn’t say Barry > Boycott but if things had worked out he probably would’ve been better.

Given their CC record at Barry's peak, I kinda doubt it tbh.
