Now that Ashwin and Kohli have retired, where do you rank them?

A lot of members here don’t like to rank players/put them in ATG XIs until they’ve retired or are clearly almost done after long careers. Now that Kohli and Ashwin have retired, where do you guys rank them? Feel free to discuss where you rank Ashwin as a spinner, overall bowler or hell even allrounder.

Our 2024 polls had them ranked 26 (Ashwin) and 29 (Kholi). I can't see much change in those positions now they've retired.
Ashwin was rated above Grimmett and Tayfield in that poll. Grimmett at least should be ranked higher.

Both probably in India's ATG XI, neither are ATG test cricketers though.

Kohli is possibly the ATG white ball batsman though

Kohli about the same level as Martin Crowe.

Ashwin I have around Kumble, probably a little ahead.

Whatever it takes!!!
In tests -

Virat in the "great test batsmen" tier, just below the ATG tier
Ashwin in the "ATG bowlers" tier.

Overall -

Virat in the "ATG batsmen" tier.
Ashwin in the "ATG bowlers" tier.

Yeah, Grum could be rated higher. But on the same vein, he should had been rated over Verity.

I have Ashwin in top 10 spinners for sure, not sure how many I have ahead of him, 5 definitely though

I'm really pissed that Kohli's retired. I was really looking forward to seeing his average get worse and worse and Williamson's getting better and better. He's certainly decent though and much better than his average.

Williamson's average will fall by a few points in that upcoming Australia tour.

Think I'd have Kohli over Kane regardless atm. Ashwin though is just after Murali/Warne in the next tier. No real argument to undervalue him.

I'd put Ashwin ahead of Grimmett but definitely behind Tayfield personally. Top 7-8 ish spinner maybe.

Kohli's decline was far too length for him to be put anywhere near ATGs of the previous era like Ponting/Dravid/Kallis/Sanga etc. Would class him not far ahead of someone like Hashim Amla. Top 35-40 ish batsman.

Agree, Kohli isn't in the top tier test batters. Might've been had he quit 2-3 years ago, however. Definitely the best white ball batter ever.

Ashwin was a bit of a home track bully and didn't perform particularly well in Australia, England or South Africa. A very good spin bowler but you'd want a better away record as an ATG.

Honestly I think Kohli, had he retired a few years ago, would be closer to ATG than Ashwin. He was more of a threat overseas and usually the big wicket. Ashwin was rarely a huge threat with the ball outside of favourable conditions, even if he got better later on. At his best he held up an end with the odd wicket he wasn't going to run through you

Australia will prepare roads to negate our elite pacers: Henry, WOR, KJ, Sears, Duffman, Smith, Foulkes, Clarke, Paul etc. and KDub, Rachin, Mariu, Abbas etc. will go really big before Ashok turns it square. It will be easier than the 3-0 in India.
