I never really understood why people thought he was in the running. From memory, his experiences with Pakistan soured him quite a bit on coaching. Admittedly, NZC is no PCB in that department (thankfully!), but still.

They'll talk about it being an open process, but let's be real - unless he fumbles it badly, the job is probably Walter's.

It isn't quite the Champions League of old, but this is still pretty cool IMO.

Ah, Guyana's Oil Money Invitational. Nice to see the Stags are going. It'll be a good experience for the boys.

I feel like I'd much prefer Bond but I can't say I have much knowledge about how good they are as coaches.
Vettori is a moody bastard. Not good with people. Probably works in the Australian environment because he's not the alpha and never will be, so plays his role.

Yes please to Bond. Has all the attributes to be successful, including being humble enough to put the right people around him (not yes men) and also has competitor running through his veins

you forget that the australian process of determining respect for someone is whether they had a good test match against them at some point
They probably forget his 12 wicket match in Auckland in 2000 as it was in the wrong time zone for Aussie audiences, and forget about his 8 wickets at Perth 2001 as the only memorable thing from that game was Warne's 99.

Not a huge surprise, but it's looking likely that KW will sit out the Zimbabwe tour in August. Good news for Will Young and Devon Conway I guess (assuming the later also doesn't decide to sit it out). Tbf, with a tour of England scheduled for next year, I think its preferable for Kane to be getting as much county cricket in as he can, and to bring one of the high performers from the recent A tour of Bangladesh into the squad. However, it does make me a little nervous that at some point in the next few months we might get word of a press conference announcing his imminent international retirement. Fingers crossed he's still got his sights on the 26/27 Aus tour for a final farewell.

Stuff article didn't mention that Trist played first class for NZ.

Is covered in the excellent Dick Brittenden 69 tour book. Selectors were looking for an extra young quick on 69 tour to Eng + Ind + Pak. Dayle Hadlee and Trist and Hounsell all selected to play touring West Indian team (scoresheet linked). Hadlee got the pick and played 8 tests on tour and bowled very quickly. Trist IIRC was more RFM but was added for Ind and Pak leg after Motz injury in Eng, played 3 tour first class games but didnt crack test XI.

Edit - just noticed minor statistics oddity. Trist played for NZ before playing for his province Canterbury. 68-69 played once for South island and once for NZ Under 23s vs Auckland before joining NZ tour.
