Nervous day but still batting the end of it is crucial, if we manage to cobble together another few dozen runs we'll be a decent position

Not many positives for the global game from that day

Hopefully just nerves from Zimbabwe & they show something during remainder of game because it’s a terrible scorecard

Tough opening day for Zim, they needed someone to dry up the runs and offer some control but they couldn't find that. England batsmen were ruthless bar Root ..The only positive Zim can cling to is that England's attack is very inexperienced when they get a chance to bat.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I said Root wouldn't score in this test. Struggles for motivation when it's this easy and inconsequential.
Gets his 13,000 but not a century (or even a 50) - I reckon this statistical specificity would've been on a market somewhere, and joe root is in on it. The questions he has to answer just keep piling up @Burgey

More of an issue that proven failures are now guaranteed selection against better opponents in the near future
Meh, I've just accepted that the end of the road for Pope would be the 2025-26 Ashes, and Crawley too unless he gets some flat wickets. The management is too ignorant to drop them even if this test hadn't happened.

It was a work night so I couldn’t watch the whole day and I’m glad I didn’t. Unfortunately this was always the most likely outcome. And it would not have been very different if they’d batted first.

Crawley won't be getting into double figures against Bumrah. Bethell to get his place.

No idea why this test is taking place. They should have played a few ODIS or T20s instead which might somewhat competitive.

This is a waste of time for everyone.
