Unless you let a chump open the bowling instead of him.Prior to the contrary belief, Sydney Barnes was not a Donald Bradman type outlierish figure, he was much more consostently a figure who was siimply dominant everywhere and regardless of context.

what really seprated Barnes from others was his ability to just bowl endlessly, and the fact he never regressed or was counteracted, he was simply capable of taking the pitch out of the equation and mastered all three nations, he didn't really have a Bradman esque series outside of against the saffers but he was the only bowler from the era to consistently factor in everywhere, be destructive on flat pitches, monsterous on wet or mattings and so forth, Steyn is probably a bigger outlier imho.
That's because Pakistan and WI stopped producing quality pacers.Steyn was a Barnes esque outlier before he got old/injuries caught up.
skill issue. That's because Pakistan and WI stopped producing quality pacers.
10 years. How many years did that peak last? 5 years?
No WI hadnt produced a worldclass pacers since Bishop in 88.skill issue.
They'd have Shemar and Seales in a few years Don't worryNo WI hadnt produced a worldclass pacers since Bishop in 88.
Pakistan had Shoaib and Asif who both cancelled themselves but not really a skill issue.
Not averaging 10-15 over the other top bats then..10 years.
Maybe but the point is that Steyn being exceptional had more to do with it being a period of less quality pacers. They'd have Shemar and Seales in a few years Don't worry
Yeah Viv regressed to a post 2002 Sachin tier bat after 1981, damn shame. Not averaging 10-15 over the other top bats then..
