It's not about total run output for me to be ATG. Root has relatively less peer rating and is poor in Australia. Still I think he could make it by end of career. I see him like Dravid, ATVG.
Dravid was poor in 3 countries (aus,sa ,sl)
Sachin was poor in 2 countries (sa,pak)

Poor in Australia is good and all but peer reputation is such a ridiculously bad argument for modern players man

Not for me. To be ATG you need to be unanimously spoken about by peers in such terms, and he isn't.

Average 28 vs sa at home

It's not world class by any means TBH,
And even after 4-5 tours his average was below 40 in sa till 2010,
1989-2010( 21 years of career with below 40 average in sa is really poor)
The first point is pretty irrelevant for being poor in SA.
Secondly why is 2010-11 just being ignored?

Tendulkar was still worldclass in SA where conditions are tougher, so being poorer at home is somewhat more forgivable compared to Root in Aus.

First it was Smith who had peer reputation issues now it's Root, does anyone from this era have "good peer rep" or is just a buzzword to you?

Smith, De Villiers, and Kohli had ATG level peer rating during their peaks iirc

Kohlis decline happened though and De Villiers retired early

Averages 40 and has an ATG ton. It's perfectly fine. The SA one though is like so funny..... Especially given Sachin has arguments to be the best touring batsman in SA.
Meaning of the above sentence In other words -
"Root will be a candidate for the argument of best overseas batsman in aus, if he score around 500 run in the upcoming Ashes."
