I want to add a longevity measure in, based on wickets but that isn't actually wickets. That way, if I were to multiply these factors together I wouldn't be just multiplying wickets by wickets (due to WPI being one of the measures), which just feels wrong.

I have given 1 point for 1st name, 2 points for 2nd name and so on and this is the list by Grok

  1. Marshall: 9
  2. Hadlee: 13
  3. Steyn: 16
  4. McGrath: 18
  5. Donald: 22
  6. Trueman: 22
  7. Lillee: 25
  8. Ambrose: 27
  9. Akram: 28
Thanks for the efforts good sir. Donald and Trueman do end up higher than the other 2, which I like. :)

However I don't think all the factors are equal. If I were to make a formula, I would have era adjusted away and home averages as being much more important than the other 2 factors.

I am saying that I can't judge Lillee in Pakistan based on 79 because it's too small a sample he needs to play more to get a conclusion.
True

I rate Lillee lower not because of one poor series

I rate Lillee lower not because of his talent but because he is unproven.

Marshall = half as good as McGrath

I agree

I made this by fitting the points (0,0), (300,.7), (800,1) to a quadratic equation with formula f(x)≈−0.0000021667x2+0.0029833x

My final formula would use the following weights:

Away average ratio 36%
Home average ratio 30%
SR ratio 6%
WPI 13%
Longevity 15%

Yes, I realize I've just recreated MVP with some different weights. Shoutout to @Flem274*

Could you do this for a larger set of players? Say all bowlers with 150/200 test wickets at least?
