Kapil has 8 tons in 134 games and you are thinking Botham is overrated as a bat?

Nobody is rating him ahead of Botham as a batter tbf. It's just that the gap is smaller than the gap between Boycott and gavaskar.

No one says Kapil is a better bat than Botham. And Botham still averages 2 runs more and it's below 28 on removing India.

I think Gavaskar+Kapil is definitely a stronger batting force than Boycott+Botham, any way you put it. The increase output at 6 comes in at cost in the OP. I am sorry, it just doesn't makes much sense honestly.

Botham at 6 means a captain can choose between a top seven of specialist bats plus keeper and three bowlers not including Botham or a top six of specialist bats plus keeper and four bowlers not including Botham.

Hence more options and flexibility whereas with Kapil it's pretty set and I don't regard Kapil's batting at 7/8 as reliable or particularly impactful.

Frankly Botham has a decent case to be a slightly better bowler too.

I think 3-4 runs in difference in there batting is fine. Kapil also has some Top tier knocks against strong attacks.

I think you simply are missing a point here. You can either have Botham or Kapil at 6, and Kapil will be a downgrade on a specialist bat. But, Gavaskar more than makes up for it in the top order IMO

How many batsmen averaged 45+ in all countries except one and that too being an opener. Add an average of 43 from age 37-41...an age which is normally regarded as a career drag as decline is pigeonholed. Why is he rated so low here?
