wait what
The bowler who took Kohli when he played a Ranji match (and was subsequently harrassed by Kohli fans online. Heck even a man sharing his name was harrassed....) told in an interview that his team bus driver advised him to bowl Kohli on the 5th stump.

Very clear, but not that big. I rate Boycott higher than most. And I have Botham a little ahead of Dev.
Dev did much better than Botham against WI though. And he was ATG in WI, Great in Australia, fine in Pakistan with the ball in context and good in England and SA with the bat. Only NZ were he was a total dud.

Botham is just a clearly better bat and same level as a bowler.

not really sure the general perception of Boycott as a boring, dour selfish prick is honest, to be honest.

From his highlights, he might not look aggressive, but looks pretty strong. Definitely underrated.
I rate him around Miandad actually, certainly underrated. I think he might've been selfish as a person (though, nowhere near as much of a piece of trash as Javed) and that effected the perception of his batting when his tempo wasn't all that different than his partners in Amiss, Edrich and later, Atherton and Cook.

Do you really believe his batting is enough to overcome the gap between Gavaskar and Boycott?
Yes because it's good enough to allow for an extra bat or bowler in the team by being a regular number 6 and full time bowler. Kapil isn't batting higher than 7/8. Hence more balance in the side.

If Botham is your regular number six batter and any higher than a 4th seamer, your team is trash. We're talking about overall cricketers, not peaks. Fat Botham makes the choice easy for me.

Botham overall is better than Kapil, sure. But they're close; but Boycott and Gavaskar are not, sorry.
