Is Garner like the cricket version of Shaq? Just blessed with an insane physical traits that makes them great even with very less effort compared to others.
I don’t recall Garner ever being criticised for his lack of effort.

He had less variation than even McGrath and Ambrose but his bounce was so high and so awkward most of the time and his accuracy was every bit compareable to them, and that just made him unplayable in ways Wasim was not, in my opinion.
Curious as to the source of this?

Garners strike rate is better than Ambrose’s btw
One of the reasons I'm convinced that Marshall and McGrath would be the absolutely perfect opening partnership, is because how well Maco and Big Bird did. The contrast of the pace, swing and skiddy bounce to the height, accuracy, bounce and seam would be a handful.

You watched Garner live? I can’t imagine you being that old. Even old enough to see Ambrose seems a bit of a stretch
Plenty of footage of Garner and he just doesn't seem to move it much (if at all), ofcourse haven't watched Garner live I'm not a grandpa, lol have watched Ambrose but was young at the time

Don't have to be a grandpa to have watched Garner 👀

Hadlee would be a good shout-out with his seam and outswing combo but I give McGrath the edge due to the height factor.

Garner doesn't have a large enough career sample or me and I think a modern bowler needs the 300 wicket margin to be classified ATG.

near grandpa surely
Assuming you have proper memories of him playing tests - I would say you can properly remember and judge a sportsperson when you’re closer to 10 than 5… before that you might have vague memories.

So using 7-8 as a starting point you’d need to be 44-45 to properly remember the end of his career (where he was opening the bowling and near his best tbf)

Definitely possible grandpa territory. My parents and maternal grandparents weren’t grandparents at that age, but my paternal grandparents were.

And I'm over that and not a grandparent (🤞🏽🤞🏽)
