I don't think 2023 deserves to be higher than 2015 really. Also, 1999 was actually a good team, but not that great imo; especially given two better teams played.

I think 2015 was stronger on paper but 2023 beat trumped some very high quality teams, mentally very strong.

I disagree. Starc 2015 alone makes a huge difference; they were dominant in 2015 weren't in 2023. Also, how on Earth is India 2011 so low??

Fair, although they would be likely to be fail on tougher surfaces. They lost to a very weak SL in the WC. Plus I think India were more dominant overall, only lost one match. England lost to very weak Pak and SL sides

India do have Dhoni as captain so maybe you might be right.

Neither the 2015 nor the 2023 teams were vintage Aus ODI sides tbh. Obviously still miles better than anything anyone else could put up, but when you're comparing them with other Aus teams as opposed to the dross put up by the lesser nations (ie everyone), they're not top shelf at all

2007 and 2003 are far superior agreed. But surely 1999 is not far ahead of 2015 and 2003, and the 2015 team was also more or less supremely dominant throughout the cup except for one close loss to NZ. Brushed off India, SL etc with ease and smashed NZ in the final

Yup even 1999 team is better than those.

That team was really struggling at the start. 2015 way more dominant. Brushed aside strong SL and NZ sides with ridiculous ease. Just one loss in the WC, that too a very close one

Nah, 99 had Gilchrist, MWaugh, Ponting, Bevan, Warne and McGrath. Add Steve Waugh to those six blokes and it's a bloody good nucleus of a side.

Wouldn’t looking at the cycle before make more sense if you want to do that, given the way teams have traditionally built towards the WC?

I think it is fair to say that SA had a really good ODI team in the 90s but by 99, that Aus team had surpassed them.
