Whatever it takes!!!
Boult wasn't used at the death because Tewatia once smashed a left-arm pacer to win a match a few years ago?
Its why matchups need to die.

And its also pretty instructive that a few posters here, even ones who have been around a long time, thought/think batsmen can just increase their SR at any time irrespective of how the bowler is bowling. I still remember the first Iron Man and Colonel Rhodes (the Terrance Howard version) saying how he still thinks the pilots' human instinct was a key and probably decisive factor in crunch moments. Maybe these franchises ought to think of that too.

im positive no one was thinking that, like ever

also yes, matchups need to go into the ****ing bin. each matchup is unique and beyond a superficial to average level like Ashwin doing great against lhb, the variations in each player’s individuality, match situations in which they matched up against each other and their instructions at that time make the entire exercise pointless and its a scam invented by data analysts to stay lazy and relevant

I like that Iron Man and Iron Man 3 far more than anything MCU have come up with since

Went to sleep with two overs to spare expecting RR to win this easily. Shocked to learn they lost. They need a better director of cricket or this will keep happening.

Stupid use of matchups*.

Not using boult because he got smashed by a left armer once at the death isn't what using matchups are about.

Actually matchups are more ridiculous than that. Its not that Boult was hit by Tewatia or something. It is more like Tewatia once smashed Cottrell so that means he can smash all left arm fast medium bowlers bowling to him at the death. Its incredibly stupid but based on some of the comments from the RCB discussion, I can see why people are falling for it.

Are you talking about the average fans perception of matchups or teams use of them? Boult has bowled 3 at the front and not bowled at the death more than just today during this season. Tewatia murdering cotrell wasn't the deciding factor in not bowling him at the death.

The latter. Boult not bowling at the death when bowling first is different. When your choices are Kuldeep Sen and Boult, I dont think they would have gone for Kuldeep unless it was a matchup decision and its what Doull and others on cricbuzz thought as well, and usually they are pretty accurate with their insider info when it comes to IPL.

RR, MI, present day SRH are very well known to be big fans of analysts, match-ups etc.

KKR and DC right now are both very personality driven by their respective coaches and are much more coach's teams than captains'.

CSK, GT and LSG seem a bit more old school and let their captains call the play based on how they read the game on the day.

RCB and PBKS usually just dont matter, lol. They are usually so confused that its rare they actually have a plan or philosophy.

Probably depends on what kind of captain you have. Dhoni, for example, is clearly a great reader of T20 games. Samson, less so!!

The biggest flaw of RR in their IPL history is that they haven't invested in their bowling resources..

Their highest ever wicket taker is Shane Watson a batting all rounder.
Yuzvendra Chahal has only been there for 2 years and he's already the 3rd highest wicket taker for RR in their history, recently surpassing Shane Warne's tally who last played in 2011..
He's also the first RR bowler to reach 50 wickets for the franchise since James Faulkner in 2015.

The most wickets for an Indian pacer for RR is 65 by Siddarth Trivedi who last played in 2013 and never played for India..The next best on that list for an Indian pacer is Munaf Patel with just 36 ipl wickets and who last played in 2010.

No wonder there is has been such a dominance of title wins for CSK and MI until the newer franchises like SRH and now Gujarat Titans have arrived , some of these franchises have poor long term strategies.

Yeah but these teams were like this even with other captains - RR is very England cricket team-like and I think they have some of the same analysts even, or at least had.

Will jacks is apparently debutting for RCB. Be interesting to see who get's left out. Would be suprised if they drop green, don't see how replacing green with jacks solves the whole "we have two guys who wanna bat three (patidar and green) and neither can bat 5) issue they have.
