Which record is more impressive: India's dominance at home or Smith's SA being undefeated away from home from 2007 to 2015?

India at home. Near unparalleled dominance, and losing what only 4 tests in total since their last series defeat in 2012 I guess

Smith's SA had a bit of decline post the retirements.

Kohli's India is still going and will keep on going. India is past the point of ever having a weak team. They'll always be strong.

As overall quality of sides, maybe. I'm interpreting the question as comparing Rsa away to India home only. WI and Aus are better than Rsa away. India home is ahead of both.
Right. Essentially the question is is being super dominant at home more.impressive than being unbeaten away?

No, but calling this team merely “super dominant” is doing it a disservice. Winning 17 home series on the trot is unprecedented, as is effectively their win %. The team just smacked England who won 15 of their last 17 or whatever tests with a mixture of debutants and backup players.

WI lost 1 test at home for the entire 80s though. And that test both Marshall and Viv were absent.

Australia lost 2 tests at home from 99 to 2007. One of those was a dead rubber test and the other had Warne and McGrath missing.

I am not entirely sure how you established India is superior to both at home.

More draws though (matches or series)

Put it this way: India had arguably the best home run. Rsa did not for away.
Australia also have a higher winning percentage than Kohli's side with 41 wins in 50 games.

I would argue having an unbeaten away run is more difficult than being super dominant at home. SA won twice each in Aus and Eng, and then in NZ, Pak, SL and WI. Only in India did they draw twice. Slightly more impressive to me especially given the strengths of the sides they faced. Just to compare that is a longer length of time than Australia were undefeated away from home.

Aus still drew a series. Series results are>>> test results.

OFC away is tougher. Rsa could be better with a lower win percentage. But I think that a team that is in contention for GOAT is better than ome that isn't.

Not arguing if SA or India is a better team but which home vs away achievement is more impressive. I argue that SA's is second only to 80 WIs away record of alltime and is more impressive than India's indomitablility at home.

Ya, i meant it that way.

I think there is a disconnect on how successful India have been at home. Agree to disagree.

80s is 10 years

99-07 is 8 years.

If we take 2013-2022 that is 10 years and Ind only lost twice, one of which had Jadeja and Shami missing.

WI also drew a home series against Pak.

The 2023 Aus loss and 24 Eng loss are more due to Ind being in transition than anything. I don't see Eng/Aus winning a match next time around when the batting will have matured.

I am not really sure on this one..... Voting India for now due to winning 17 home series on the trott; will think about it more.
