People are still riding Pietersen’s ****?Root, Pietersen, Boycott all have a strong case over Barrington.
Prehaps for entertainment but not for batting ability/effectivenessRoot, Pietersen, Boycott all have a strong case over Barrington.
Pretty good in the slips or outfield. Probably not as outstanding compared with his peers as Anderson in his younger days. How was Barrington as a fielder?
For the match winning innings.Prehaps for entertainment but not for batting ability/effectiveness
How many tests did boycott play during that period?Barrington had a 9.5 year career and averaged 58
In Boycott's best 9.5 year career period (not including the years of self-exile), he averaged 59 and shared the distinction of averaging even more overseas. And while Boycott is marked down heavily for his rigid survival tempo, Barrington wasn't an attacking player either and was also dropped once for slow scoring. Geoff has opener tax too. Boycott over Barrington isn't irrational.
50. Missed quite a few because of illness/injury.How many tests did boycott play during that period?
So like 35 less tests than Barrington. Not really close but I might be in the minority50. Missed quite a few because of illness/injury.
I'm not saying Boycott is better. But I don't think it's an irrational opinion. Would say Boycott performed better against the best team they both faced also; which extends into the nine tests Boycott played against the juggernaut when he was forty. So like 35 less tests than Barrington. Mhm. Its not an irrational opinion, just one I don’t personally share. Similar to Viv and BarringtonI'm not saying Boycott is better. But I don't think it's an irrational opinion. Would say Boycott performed better against the best team they both faced also; which extends into the nine tests Boycott played against the juggernaut when he was forty.
ezcellence in a broader range of condutionsI guess I can see the argument for Boycott if you really value openers. Can’t really any reason other than strike rate for Pietersen/Root over Barrington
it’s a very niche stats oriented view without context to rate Barrington higher than Root or Pietersen.ezcellence in a broader range of condutions
