Sorry, I don't think this is close. Donald and Pollock were a far better pair of bowlers across a range of conditions. There may not have been much between the two pairs in helpful conditions, but away from helpful conditions Philander was far less of a bowler across his career than Pollock.

Also, if you just look at the names, it would give you one idea. But for mine, after actually looking at the stats you'd have to say Steyn/Philander actually performed better in tandem, in tougher overall conditions.

Yeah, but Steyn makes up for it in being a particularly great seamer in unhelpful conditions. They complemented each other really well. Also think Steyn is far ahead of this pack as an individual bowler, overall.

Oh I am a huge fan of Steyn as an individual bowler, but if I was on even an Australian road, let alone an Asian road I would go with Donald/Pollock as a pair.

Pollock was a bit ineffective away later in his career after injuries but he was still considerably better than Philander and had some gun series away before that point anyway. Steyn is a bit better than Donald but Pollock is a lot better than Philander.

Donald was very good on unhelpful decks too. Pollock less so but Philander was bad and not just by ATG standards.

To make it simple, I prefer the Donald/Pollock combo considerably away from helpful seam bowling surfaces. Pollock was a much better bowler than Philander in such circumstances that I would want that combo, regardless of how good Steyn was. I give Steyn a slight edge over Donald but there is too big a difference between the Pollock of pre 2001 and the best of Philander.

Has a really incredible record. His SR of 47 is not talked about much. Other than Waqar none of the great bowlers of 90s were striking under 50.
