New Zealand doom and gloom thread

I'm actually starting to feel a lot more hopeful about next years world cup.

Williamson, Latham, Mitchell, Conway, Allen, Macewell, Phillips, Santner, Neesham, Southee, Boult, Sodhi, Ferguson, Henry, Jamieson

It's a better seeming squad than I thought we'd have in 2023. And while it is in India, our limited overs spin options are looking very healthy. I could see us being 3rd or 4th favourites going into the tournament if we hit a good patch of form.
Would also have Young, Cleaver, Rippon and Ajaz in the mix. The side could use one additional top order batter (Guptill will make the squad you'd think). Five specialist pacemen is too many for India, Jamieson is probably surplus. Sodhi had had a good little revival in the WC but still don't trust him over a full 50 over tournament.

I look forward to the soundbites at the end of this test. Explaining this sort of a thrashing in a home test is new territory for Stead and Larsen.

Wonder if it will prompt them to give Nicholls a spell. Probably not.

I kind of want Sri Lanka to roll us because while Bangladesh should've been a wake up call to shake NZC to the core, they just keep on slipping away from the inevitable. Winning the home series against Sri Lanka with Tom Latham scoring a double century is the worst thing for the team imo.

We basically need another 45 all out and some hard decisions on who makes the team, ironically both situations facilitated by Brendon McCullumball Esq.

Pretty ready to not watch until they sort the management and the alleged out tbh.

They won't have to, that's the problem. Who is going to ask? Our sports media is either dead, the establishment or pay walled.
Our sole sports media i.e. Ian Smith will ask Munro, Guptill, CDG and maybe even Rutherford back...

This might be a very painful 5 years ahead, and unlike after the depressing period 2008-2012, we don't have that group of exciting talented young players we did from NZ's 2007/2008 (whenever that was) under 19 side coming through.

Although we may get a few more SA born players coming over and qualifying ala Conway

I think there’s plenty of talent coming through. Ravindra, Allen, Smith, Sears, Fisher, O’Rourke, Foulkes, Phillips, Foxcroft etc. The real issue for me is the conditions in which FC cricket is being played. Pushing the PS out to early spring/ late Autumn and serving up a string of goat paddocks to play on is killing the development of our young batting talent and making the likes of Sean Solia a more serious wicket taking option than they should be. More time needs to be made for FC cricket in December/February especially as ODI’s increasingly become a dead format.

I thought we sorted out the FC pitch stuff a while back and it directly led to us being good, so how come we're getting these same problems again?
Now, it is voluntary.

We're choosing to have crap FC FC pitches. 20 years ago it was more down to chance and environment.

I guess 'someone' got bored, or thought they were smarter than their predecessor.

Absolutely agree. Maybe start the season off with the Ford Trophy and get that done and out of the way. Then a few rounds of PS. The go into the SS a week before Xmas and get that done in 4/5 weeks max. There sounds be a game a day. Then finish of the PS from late Jan. PS should go back to a full 10 rounds too
