Rippon was only a fringe selection as a white ball spinner, due to success of Santner and Sodhi. And with Michael Bracewell having a good start to his white ball bowling career, and with Ravindra on the horizon as a batting all-rounder and 4th white ball spin option, and Ashok further on the horizon as the next specialist spin option, there is less need to keep giving international experience to 31 year old Rippon.

I think Fergs action is too harsh on his body for us to expect him to play Tests
He played fc for ages and his action looks alright.

I don't think management will ever forgive him for their own mistake debuting him at Perth with no warm up though and he hasn't had too many opportunities to play fc since.

It's very silly we will give just the one test to the 150kph guy who averages 24 in fc and was top 3 in the wc but with what appears to be an odi form slump his time has likely passed.

Also rippon and the Netherlands have been absolutely dogged. Almost cynical honestly given how hard we pivoted to promoting the macewell cause.
Could've debuted van Beek rather than Lister next series too; with JAM proliferation that rule seems a little outdated

It didn't though?

Ferguson has been remarkably fit for a genuine quick and ungodly available for a kiwi quick.

We've been spoilt by the availability of the main trio (Boult has had his injury moments). This isn't historically normal.

Anyone know when Foxcroft becomes eligible to be selected for NZ?
Stuff story from today (link below):
.. Had Foxcroft remained in New Zealand in early 2020, he would have been available for selection by now by meeting the three-year residency requirement, and there are efforts underway to see if he can get a waiver due to exceptional circumstances
If that doesn’t eventuate, he could end up having to wait until late 2025 – a scenario he is already accepting of....

Ferguson's had a lot of injury problems over the last couple of years. Sure he's no Shane Bond, but he's missed significant game time in each of NZ's last three home seasons, and I think the regular injury breaks have had an impact on his performances over the past 6 months. He also no longer plays FC cricket. Whether that's a decision made because of the selection panel's reticence to pick him in tests, or because he decided he wants to preserve his physical fitness for LO cricket, it is necessarily something that will count against him when it comes to test selection.

My own view is that the selector's see Ferguson as absolutely essential to NZ's LO sides. He's clearly superior to any other fast bowler in the country, and is seen as a critical ingredient in NZ's bid to win the World Cup later this year. They therefore shy away from picking him in tests, regardless of whether or not that damages the test team's prospects. I'd like to see him in the test side, but with Lord Colin no longer playing and Wagner on his last legs, I think the team would need significant restructuring to accommodate him, as he'd likely only be bowling 15ish overs a day.
