Not really. Quite a few batsmen managed a 40 plus or near average in DeSilva's era. His average is below par for an ODI great of the 80s and 90s.

Most of them were go slow openers who struck at 65. Jones and Miandad were better but different roles. Jones was #3 and Miandad batted more slowly though he should definitely be in contention for the Asia XI regardless.

Would you agree that for a middle order bat the emphasis should be on output rather than scoring rate, as compared to an opener?

Personally I would bin Miadad and bring in YK. Also, Sanga’s record as a pure batsman is much better than being a wk. i would bin Dravid (pains me to say it) and replace him with Sanga. Then bring Pant as a wk.

All good ideas but Pant is too early in his career. Worse case scenario I'd go for a Dhoni if we're leaving out Sangakkara as a keeper. Younis Khan over Javed is also feasible. Ok how about this:

All good ideas but Pant is too early in his career. Worse case scenario I'd go for a Dhoni if we're leaving out Sangakkara as a keeper. Younis Khan over Javed is also feasible. Ok how about this:

Not a fan of changing positions so I wouldn’t put Dravid at 5. I just checked and Miandad played 27 games at 5 and did really well. So, either include him or bring in 5th/ 6th position specialist like VVS. I personally would go with Mindad.

I think Pant has already played more match defining innings compared to Dhoni. If you want to bring in keeper with longevity, I would go for Farooq Engineer who was said to be one of the best pure wicket keeper of his day. You do need a safe pair of hands behind the stumps for Murali and Ashwin.

My memories of Latif are hazy. I don’t remember much about his ability as a keeper.

I haven’t seen Farukh in action but everyone who did, raves about how amazing he was as a keeper; Fred, SJS etc.

PJ > Engineer with gloves and rougly equal with the bat. PJ possibly is the best pure keeper out of Asia, and to boot he overages around 30 with the bat.

Oh Latif was ****ing amazing with the gloves. You need to be very good with the young Pakistani fast bowlers acting like Peter North.

Not sure why you would need Jadeja. Would rather have a four man pace attack plus Murali. Imran as allrounder is enough plus Akram is decent with the bat. .
