Too bad, best wishes to RSA to overcome the pandemic soon. Hopefully series still happens sometime in the future, is always a fun series.
On 25 January, CA put out this tweet, calling the tour “still to be confirmed”
They’ve also put out others referring to it as a “proposed” tour, as recently as last week (possibly later but I ain’t digging through the archives lol u kid)
Around that time they also led a story with “South Africa is battling a deadly new wave of COVID-19 but Australia’s cricketers are still keen to tour the country for the upcoming Test series.”
It’s a fair enough call to postpone, but I strongly suspect they’ve had no intention of going for quite some time now. Using the propaganda arm to release a story that basically says “we’re sending our players into a disease-ridden hellscape and they might die for your entertainment, but it’s ok because they want to go” is a weird thing to do if nobody has brought up that you’re sending your players into a disease ridden hellscape. Why would you voluntarily frame it that way when it’s basically broadcasting that you’re endangering your players, unless you, I don’t know, wanted to generate such coverage to give a veil of insurmountable public pressure to the decision to (a) shitcan an unprofitable overseas tour that could only **** the chances of a WTC finals appearance and (b) not bother with sending anyone good to NZ?

With that said....I'm surprised Australia have cancelled. the main thing in world cricket right now is just keep the train rolling and the broadcast deals coming in. I wonder if Australia ****ing SA over like this might have some ramifications down the line....#SpikeysConspiracyTheories
