Australian test selection 2020/21

Australian board if it has to become financially independent would need to make BBL a better brand and tournament, by curtailing the length yet having an influx of more global and local big names, through this they can generate better revenue which as byproduct of it would create a tournament with better quality of cricket generating global interest.

Only thing BBL loses on if it moves away from peak of cricket season is probably the gate money, however given that a whole BBL season went on pretty ok during a pandemic, probably shows a way for the future.
Nah if it moves too far from summer then it runs into football season and it can't compete with that.

You know they’re gonna play Carey as a bat at #5 for a few tests before dropping/retiring Paine and making Carey captain/keeper...

It shouldn't be this 2 month ridiculously long tournament, start the season by last week of October or first week of November and finish it in 40-45 days.

The Shield, List-A tournaments can then co-exist parallel to the international games.

Nah the run up to Christmas is too busy. Much better to play them in late January/ February after the test summer.

The BBL won't be moved. The entire purpose of the tournament is to line up with the school holidays.

Whatever they do, BBL has an opportunity to become the second most watched T20 tournament after IPL if CA play their chips right.

Because if 100 manages to take off, BBL will really start to struggle for relevance as a global brand tournament.

Which is pretty frustrating as I really don't like the idea of Tests colliding with the BBL. Then again any of the options are suboptimal barring playing it out of season which is kind of impossible in large chunks of Australia.

I think they do have to make the season shorter though. It just feels far too overcooked.

Can we go back to talking about the thinking required to take Steketee (7 wickets at 44) over Bird (15 wickets at 25) to South Africa? Bird and Khawaja would both be feeling rightly aggrieved right now. Neither are of retirement age and both should be close enough to the test side to at least make the tour over spuds like Harris and Steketee.

The BBL isn't a global brand tournament though. It's very much a domestic tournament for a domestic audience.
Then shouldn't they stop screwing the international season with a ****ty domestic tournament?

The whole idea behind BBL is to make maximum money from wherever possible, that's why three foreign players (which I hear soon are going to be bumped to four) are being allowed per team, that's why CA has hefty broadcast contracts across the cricketing world and an uptick in number of games literally every season.

Harris' continued presence in the squad and the fact that Langer is so rigid he'd would pick him over Khawaja opening when Khawaja has two test centuries doing it to Harris' nought is really offensive.
