Possibly the biggest commentary gaff of all time:

“The terrorist has got another wicket.” I believe it cost him his job!

“To call the crowd a 'crowd' in Jamaica is a misnomer. It should be called a 'mob'. Their partisan attitude was even more evident when they did not applaud any shots we played. They were stamping their legs, clapping and jumping with joy. The only word I can think of to describe the behaviour of the crowd is 'barbarian'. The spectators, to put it mildly, were positively inhuman.”

Did you censor the original quote a bit? It was as politically incorrect as Deano's comment.
To be fair though, it was probably the first time Indian batsmen were seeing spectators positively enjoying blood on pitch.
West Indian players claim Australian spectators behaved the same way in their previous series (chants of "Lillee Lillee... kill kill kill" etc.).
But yes, given the protection available to batsmen at the time, Indian batsmen were in genuine danger of losing life or limb.
Especially given that Holding was mixing his bouncers with frequent beamers (and the West Indian Umpires were disinterested in no-balling him or warning him).
Nevertheless Indian top order did play very bravely though (almost all ended up in the hospital).
Was there any other Test match where a captain practically forfeits a match purely from the fear of some of his team members getting injured or killed?

"There are many skeletons dangling in Botham's cupboard, ranging from stories of drug-taking to general thuggery, and if he keeps peddling his lies, there's every chance more of these stories will emerge"
