Smith v Kohli (test match batting)

It's not a stat category to be impressed by. Means he averages much lesser against 140- bowling than he "should"

Whatever it takes!!!
I like cricviz and the stats they do feed. To me, it just shows Smith likes pace on the ball much more than any other current batsman. Murali Kartik was making this point on comms during the 3rd ODI. He said even though Saini can hit 140+ easily, if it were him, he would actually try to bowl slower and make him manufacture the pace as he seems to find that aspect relatively more difficult.

Yeah I remember this. He was actually bowling slower to Smith when Kartik brought it up.

This isn't the first time cricviz has produced material that would require data such as pitch maps and speeds.

They haven't claimed that to be the entirety of Tendulkar's career either:

CricViz is largely worthless at the moment I'm quite happy to pretend it isn't to give them enough traffic and money to fund the next 10 years until it's actually awesome.

So.. yay Smith!

Still potentially higher than the others on the list though, given his higher overall average and depending on the proportion of balls greater than/less than 140kph. Would have liked them to have included no. of balls faced and no. of dismissals on a separate graphic

Anyway, not the most meaningful stat ever but still a nice piece of trivia for nerds like me

Yeah , Smith ranked 23 in ICC ODI ratings is same as Kohli ranked no.1 in ICC test ratings.

Yes,

Basically all as a result of his year out. Smith is the #1 ranked ICC test batsman in reality.

If you are going by the rankings, then you are conceding Labuschagne is the 3rd best batsman in world cricket atm and Australia have 3 of the top 5 batsman in the world in their current top 4.

Why do we all have to be so sensitive? ffs it's just a fun stat. Now we have triggered Indian crew trying to make sure people don't think it's an "impressive" stat when it was never presented that way in the first place and then triggered Aussie crew talking about irrelevant ****.

This is what drives the forum isn't it ? Would be so dull without it :) Personally, I have enjoyed engaging in debates with Aussie friends here, most notably Burgey and Stephen.

He was also ICC test cricketer of the year 2018. So atleast for 2 years he has been maintaining this form.

Days spent at no.1
Test
Smith 1170
Kohli 430
Root 45
Kane 11
ODI
Kohli 1100
Smith, Root, Kane 0
T20
Kohli 1013
Smith, Root, Kane 0

Wait so you’re saying that Smith is the better test batsman and Kohli is the better ODI and T20 batsman?!

We are talking about gap between them in test and limited overs format. Everyone knows that Smith is the better test player and Kohli in limited overs format.

Just an assumption: If Kohli and Labuschagne continue their current God mode in future test matches as well while Smith goes from current God mode to human mode from now on averaging late 40s to early 50s, how many tests will it take for people to consider those two as better than Smith?

If Smith averages 50 for the next 70 matches and Kohli 60 for the next 70 matches, their career averages should converge. Don't see this happening though.

Labuschagne has a better chance if he maintains his current form for the rest of his career.

There was a time when it seemed impossible that Sachin and Ponting would finish with averages as close to Lara as they did eventually. This is a funny game. :)
